It's Lon Kruger!!!

Who else has Kruger's resume, or better, and hasn't stopped producing results in the last 5 years?

Not a perfect resume, but its not chopped liver either.

And how many guys out there are just floating around who have been to a Final Four?

Bottom line, Kruger has been able to improve just about every program he's inherited within about 3-5 years. Florida went from 7-21 to a Final Four in 5 years. Pretty impressive IMO.

For the first time in this whole coaching search, i have found myslef cheering for Kruger to get the job. Not getting built up to high for it, but i think he would be a very good hire at this time.

We could do far worse than Kruger, IMO

And they are idiots for thinking that way. Kruger took them to the sweet 16 for the first time since Tarkanian was run off. Talk about an ungrateful and delusional fanbase.

I haven't read the message board in question, but I can guarantee you that the UNLV fanbase is not ungrateful towards Lon Kruger.

He may not be Tarkanian, but the people here love him. He is very personable, relates to the kids well, is active in the community, and wins the right way.

There may be uneducated morons out there who want someone better, but the vast majority are thrilled with Lon. Every fanbase has their idiots, even OU.

Any news from the threadstarder about what their friend of a friend of a friend heard on the phone today? If we want to hire Kruger why wait till after the tournament as Chewey said?

I really would be happy with Kruger. He has turned several other programs around, knows x's and o's and gets good players. I actually like the fact that he is 58, he can be a great stop gap and bridge for the future. Come in, turn stuff around and if he retires in the next 4-6 years well the job probably looks WAY more attractive for us to go out and get that big time splash coach because we have a good roster, we are competing the big 12, and any ncaa stuff isn't looming over our heads.

I'm on the kruger wagon

Kruger would be cool with me. He's got credibility, been successful everywhere and has never been in NCAA trouble.

Agree!! Although wouldn't have been my first choice he would have been in the top 5 of guys that I thought we might have a shot at.

I think this is starting to make the most sense. Lon has basically stepped into a similar situation in almost every job he has had in college. It's becoming pretty apparent that we probably can't make the big splash right now so higher LK to come in, clean up the program, get us back to the NCAA's and the upper tier of the Big 12 and 4-6 years down the road when he's ready to call it quits we would be much more attractive to the names we really want.

To appease the Terry Evens supporters we could bring Terry in as an assistant to gain experience and hopefully groom him to be our next head coach.

Disclaimer: I've just returned from a lunch meeting/mid day bender at Hooters. If this sounds stupid carry on.

You're a straight shooter with Upper Management written all over him

Now to the rest of your post. It does make sense, we need to get this messed cleaned up and get some quality players in here, then we can land a top 15 coach when Lon decides its time to go

Lon and Stoops are friends from their days at UF and KSU.

What does that say for those of us who can't get to twitter during the workday?

"Sources just confirmed to me that Lon Kruger was contacted by #Oklahoma, but will not interview for the position. He is remaining at #UNLV

LK still has two years left on his deal at #UNLV. No extension coming right away, but expect one to be discussed/agreed to in the future.

So, to my knowledge, that's three programs that have reached out to Kruger and been told 'thanks, but no thanks': #Utah, #OU, #NCSU

He's in his late 50s, paid well/has a good thing going at #UNLV, made a ton of money during his NBA stint. No reason to take on a project."
