Upchurch is a good friend of my brother - has excellent sources very close to the basketball program and in my experience is always honest about what he knows.
I think it's almost a guarntee - short of any further NCAA issues - Jeff is our coach for next year. Like it or not.
If you look at the past after a disappointing season in any sport, Joe Castiglione says the same thing every time, that he and the coach will meet at the end of the season and then things go from there. I've never heard him comment on the status of a coach or discuss any move until after that season is over. That is just how he runs his business.
Now, that having been said, I think it does hurt our recruiting, but I can't see a scenario where Joe Castiglione is having sleepless nights over a couple of JUCO late pick ups. I think the guy is dead set in his ways....and that is probably to the chagrin of Capel who has rumors swirling about his future with no response from the AD.
I was told by a person who would know that it was almost a lock that Capel would be back next season; moreover, I've also been told on numerous occasions that the Gallon thing is not that big of a deal overall, its tough to prove and everyone that supposedly was involved is no longer with the program.
I guess where I end up is silence in this instance really doesn't "mean" anything one way or the other as far as Capel's future....and of course Capel looks beleaguered, every day there is a new report that he is going to get fired and he has to sell his team that everything is going to be fine and to go out and play hard, even though for some of them, it could be perceived as partially their "fault" that he is on the hot seat.
Tough situation all the way around.
