Wish what you want and read what you want to on Rivals or anywhere else... at the end of the day and at the end of this season, Jeff Capel will still be the coach at OU. At least for one more season.

Guaranteed.

And I can guarantee all you good people that we here at OUHoops have no damn idea what's going on.

With Hale & Upchurch saying that they think Capel will return, it's obvious that Joe C is playing this one real close to the vest.

If you go through Joe C's history, Jeff stays. But maybe there's something in this NCAA stuff that's much bigger than anyone is reporting. That's really the only reason he gets fired. I think it should be just the on the court stuff being so bad. But I don't think that's bad enough long enough at this point. We are only 2 years removed from a deep tournament run. Now if we have a losing season next year or a non NCAA season. Jeff Capel won't be around anymore.

Mods please change the title of this thread to James Upchurch

i'll admit i'm biased, but comparing james to jay is like comparing alpo to a ribeye.

that said, jay is going off joe's history, probably without any great inside info. and i think the silence from joe c. speaks volumes.

Joe C's silence could mean anything. It could mean, "there's nothing to discuss and that he's staying so why even comment" type thing

How dumb would that be considering how we are already getting hammered with negative recruiting...

I would be very disappointed in Joe C if that were the case.

Having 2 bad seasons hurts your recruiting no matter what. That's something Jeff will have to fight even if he isn't fired. If he's fired he won't obviously.

Yes, but the point BigTime is making is that if Joe C. has made up his mind to keep him and is staying silent, it is hurting our recruiting even more. Just because the situation is already bad doesn't mean it can't be made worse.

if joe had no intentions of firing capel, then it would be pretty easy to just come out, calm the waters and back the coach by saying something like "i'm not getting into that. he's our coach, and he will continue to be our coach for the foreseeable future." but silence? not good.

This right bleeping here!!!!! You can say bye bye to Capel.

I've heard 3 interviews with Capel after the win and he sounds like a burdened man. Not very happy after such a shocking, impressive win.

Agreed. I took a photo of him walking out of the dressing rooms before the game and he looked that way. To his credit, no matter what happens, he coached a helluva a game today. As well, he was passionate.

When, over the past 14 years, has Joe C shown that he will retain a coach who has driven a program to historic lows with regard to their record and player retention, while also leading a program into potentially serious NCAA recruiting violations?

Upchurch is a good friend of my brother - has excellent sources very close to the basketball program and in my experience is always honest about what he knows.

I think it's almost a guarntee - short of any further NCAA issues - Jeff is our coach for next year. Like it or not.
