Je'lon Hornbeak wants to be instant spark

I like his attitude. And I like that he refers to last year's team as "we." It sounds as if he was closely following the Sooners all last season.

ENERGY. This team has missed that the last few years and it sounds like all the new guys, including M'Baye, will infuse massive amounts of energy and passion into this team. I know we haven't seen them play, but I can't wait to see this team play...

I'm not surprised by anything I read in that article. I have said more than once in the past few months that Jelon Hornbeak is one of the more fundamentally sound high school players I've seen in sometime. He may not bring out a WOW response to anything he does. He's just solid in every phase of the game, from his court savvy to his defense and his ability to score and run the offense.

In the game I watched on television last year, it was obvious that when the game was on the line, the coach at Grace Prep wanted Jelon on the floor to control the tempo and the team. I believe OU fans will be very pleased with how good he is. I'm not saying he will be a star as a freshman. But there is little doubt in my mind that he will contribute in a meaningful way this fall.

This is absolutely essential to most freshman. Freshman need to be able to slow down the game or else they play out of control. Osby said "he's got size, he's got speed, he knows how to slow it down." I think we'll be pleasantly surprised by his play.

He has done very well in summer workouts. The coaches are happy with all three of the young guards.

I'm not at all surprised by what you've said, vbdad. I'm very happy with the guards LK and his staff signed in the 2012 class. I firmly believe that Hornbeak, Hield and Cousins will become the building blocks in our backcourt for the next four years and beyond. Everything I've read, heard and seen about all three of these kids tells me they're winners. More importantly, perhaps, they appear to be good kids who want to do things the right way. In light of what our program went through before Kruger came, that means a lot to me.
