Jordan Woodard and the Faith 7 Game

Did Stevie Clark just have a bad game or does he struggle with tougher competition? Perhaps a little of both?

He just had a bad game, he's played well plenty of times against "tougher competition".

Top 100 Camp
A scorer by trade, Clark altered his game and played as more of a traditional setup guy the first few days of camp. He set things up, initiated the offense, played defense and kept the ball moving. During the playoffs, Clark's ability as a scorer allowed him to take over offensively as well while he led his team to a camp title.

Taking Game to a New Level

Clark is good, but he is still a bit of a gunner. Sometimes gunners go 1 for 12.

General context. It was his 1st competition since rehabbing his knee and hammy. He said he was at 100% going in. I was just hoping that he passed the test.

We need a quality recruit like Woodard. We need him from the get go.

He might end up being the best high school point guard we have brought in since I have been following OU basketball in the early 80's (30 years).

I struggle with these types of projections until we see him in a few college games. Maybe he's one of the most well-rounded PGs we've brought in, offense + defense + intangibles + athleticism. I don't think he's great at any one thing but very good at a number of things.

Hey, we've gotta keep up with Stillwater Joneses. The Oklahoman's apparently going to hype aggie players year after year, so we'll have to handle our own hype to try to keep up.

Woodard gets not a single mention in the postgame coverage, and the reporter who wrote about the game excuses this by saying he's just writing about the players people are interested in.

If you think about it, over these years most of our starting PGs have been JCs. What I said isn't out on as small a limb as you may think. However, I do have high hopes. I think he has chance to be special. Like you said, not great at any one thing but good at almost everything. Give me 13 guys like that and you've got a helluva team.

My assumption going in is that Woodard will prove out to be the quality recruit that he is advertised to be. He is highly ranked individually, competed at the highest level in the state, and his team won a championship. By all accounts he is a good character kid.

I guess that some could disagree on how far he may rise and how quick he might do it. But, with a recruit like Woodard, Kruger is certainly at a better starting point.

In addition to having a bad game, Clark was also seen on the sideline throwing up. Sounds like an overall poor night for him.

Looked life Jeff Carroll had a good game.

I guess he had a bad game. I'm sure he has had plenty of good games. He wouldn't have gotten all the hype if he hadn't. But, given the choice, I would rather try to beat Stevie Clark, than try to win with him,.

We can convince ourself of anything here. Woodard is not better than Clark. It has been proven time and time again.

Stevie Clark will be an all-conference player one day.. But right now I just don't see him getting the minutes next year. Would take Forte over Clark right now. People sleep on Phil Forte but the dude averaged 11 ppg in backup time last year. Clark would have gotten way more minutes at OU

If he is better than TMG, he is a darn good player. Obviously TMG had attitude issues but that guy could play. The kid shot 42.42% from 3 point range as a freshman. I am sure everyone remembers his cross over. TMG was a waste of talent. If that kid had a good attitude I think he could have made the NBA. He just didn't want to do the hard work.

Didn't TMG have turnover issues?

From all I've heard, Woodard is the anti-TMG. TMG was a one year disappointment. Woodard will probably be a 4 yr starter. We'll see.

I prefer pg's that don't have to score to impact games. If you have other scorers, give me the facilitating pg over the scoring pg any day of the week.

Ignoring his attitude how was he a disappointment? I thought he was a very good player as far as skills. Gary is correct that he turned the ball over a bit too much but I personally think that is easier to fix than say a guy like Grooms that doesn't turn the ball over much but can not make his open shots.

I hope Woodard is better than TMG but I when just discussing skills, I have zero problem comparing a player to TMG.

Me too. Q was good example of that. Strong defender, took care of the ball, very good passer and leader, and, when he had to, very solid jump shooter. I'm hopeful of 3-4 years of something similar to what Q gave in his 2.
