Kansas at West Virginia tonight

You mean, when they turn the ball over 22 times.

If we turn it over 22 times, they'll beat us, too.

They got outshot in free throws 47-21. I'm not saying that Kansas would have won if the fouls were more even, they looked like they had never seen the press before, but can you honestly say they get outshot by 26 free throws at home?

After listening to KU boo endlessly at our game, there's no way the free throws would look like that at the mighty phog, heck we even got a T on self and still lost.

But there's also this:

"If we don't like them shooting 47 free throws, then maybe we should move our feet on defense instead of reaching in so much. This team can be so lazy on defense at times, and that is truly painful to watch."

I guarantee that if we were outshot at the FT line by 26, many here would be melting down as well. After the KU game, there were numerous complaints that we got jobbed by the refs and some are implying the same thing in this thread here more than a week later.

What the KU fan above said is absolutely correct. Now, I didn't see the game and honestly have no idea what the officiating was like but West Virginia likes to drive the ball and if KU's defenders did nothing but reach on defense, I'll bet they did get called for a bunch of fouls. Plus, KU was behind and, I'm sure, had to foul late to try and get back in it. To me, it's entirely reasonable that a team could be outshot by 26 at the line under those circumstances.

Fans are fans and many will always complain about the refs when they lose. Sometimes refs make horrible calls. In last night's football game, Clemson got totally jobbed at the end of the 1st half when they didn't stop the clock. But it's not the reason Clemson lost; I seriously doubt it's the reason Kansas lost tonight, and it's damned sure not the reason we lost to Kansas last week.

And if we lose a game later this year (or later this week) that we shouldn't lose, it probably will not be because of the refs.

So you didn't watch the game, but have strong opinions on it? Makes perfect sense. Take a lap.

I hope you're right Ada, but I'm not sure about that. I mentioned this in another thread....KU basically plays with two PGs (Mason, Graham) on the court most of the time. KU also has the depth in the frontcourt to bang bodies with WV on rebounds. And KU has taken relatively good care of the ball in almost all of their games.

Having said that, if the refs let WV hack and get away with it, then KU could be in trouble.....and that's ok by me:D

Oh boy...I admit I was wrong. Yet this wasn't a "huge" upset according to Kenpom....Kenpom actually had WV winning by a point. But having said that, it wasn't the press that beat KU, it was KU's offense in the halfcourt that was absolutely brutal....tentative shooters, bad passing, and no confidence....that will get you beat on the road against average teams, much less really good teams.

I got the feeling late in the first half that Kansas was never really in it. They ever could get a run going and just seemed out of sync the entire night.

But if they'd gotten similarly jobbed at the end of the game, it might have been different, yes? (See: OU's road game some years back vs. Oregon.)

Every national commentator I heard discuss the game in Lawrence (and there were many) said we got jobbed on that non-call at the end of the game. Now, I don't know if you saw the KU game or not (you seem to enjoy making pronouncements on games you didn't see), but dismissing those complaints as just fans not being happy about losing is simplistic.

Inept and/or one-sided officiating can unfairly impact a game. Why is that so hard for some to acknowledge? Do the officials play a detrimental role in every game? No, thank goodness. Are the officials solely to blame when they have an off night? No, but they sometimes play a larger role in the outcome of the game than they should. Like in the third overtime last Monday in Lawrence. And the full 40 minutes last season in Manhattan.

Have they changed the rules? The WV guards were mugging the Kansas point guards and there were no calls. Lots of hands on, body checks blocking but no calls. Interesting.
