Kris Martin - Commit

It's one thing if you're a legend, like Gasso, and you hire your son away from Michigan State. Or if you're hiring somebody like Mike Stoops, who was a HC at Arizona, and is being offered the same job by Urban Meyer.

It's an entirely different story when you're hiring somebody whose only experience is at Northern Arizona.

Stoops and Gasso earned the spots they're in, regardless of whether or not it worked out. Kruger unequivocally did not. He was not getting similar job offers before he came here, and he won't be anytime soon.

It's more egregious if the individual is not qualified, but it is still an absolutely massive problem even if they are the most qualified individual in the world. It is not appropriate for a family member to be evaluating another family member professionally, because they will never be able to do so objectively. There is a reason that anti-nepotism policies exist in most successful organizations.

I disagree. Lon didn't just hire his kid to give him a job, he already had one.

He had a job, yes, but Northern Arizona isn't even remotely on our level. If you can name their conference without looking, I'd be very impressed. They went 5-27 this year, and this is a conference where Montana went 16-2.

giving up 50 to 1 dimensional Georgia is horrible yes. Giving up 52 to osu is horrible. Tech last year. West Vrginia in 2012, Baylor in 2013 & 2014. Do you need more examples of horrible defense under Mike Stoops?

One dimensional? Give me a break. OU fans slept on, and still are apparantly, that UG offense before the game. It was the 6th (I believe) most efficient offense in the country heading into bowl season. That makes it a pretty stout offense, even if they did lean more towards the run. Just b/c they ran it more during the regular season than they passed it, doesn't mean their passing game wasn't good. It was. Check the stats. And it got better as their true freshman QB matured.

As for the 50+, the OU defense was responsible for giving up 35 points in regulation. That isn't terrible. Look at the last two Bama/Clemson NC games.

And lmao at bringing up a game from 2012. Good Lord.

I mean final 4 in football is bad right??

He cost us the national title, plain and simple. The correct game plan was simple: make their true freshman qb beat you. If he does, tip your cap. Instead we let them do what they wanted to do and that’s run their elite RBs straight up the gut for 10+ a clip. We were outnumbered at the line of scrimmage numerous times, which is flat out unacceptable. We should have outnumbered them at the line of scrimmage (like they did to us in the second half) and put their qb under duress.

He has drastically under performed since taking over. If this was his first bad year then no one would be calling for his head. Unfortunately, he’s only had 1 decent year since coming back.

I come looking for info on Kris Martin and I get Mike Stoops

Seriously though. But not shocking, some people on this board are defending Mike Stoops. Some of the same people defending Stoops are talking about getting rid of Kruger which is beyond logical.

That everyone is guided by logic is illogical in itself.

When are we going to know if this guy is eligible next season? August? Sooner?

I don't want the 30-year anniversary column to be the only thing I share with you all today, so since I answered a question at dirtburglars.com regarding why Kris transferred from ORU, I thought I'd share some links regarding ORU men's basketball in March/April 2017 with you all:

First, here's the article announcing Kris' transfer.

Martin, with two years of eligibility left, was projected to be a key cog in ORU’s lineup next season. The 6-foot-4 guard from Kimball High School in Frisco, Texas, averaged 13.2 points during his sophomore season. He made 40.8 percent (117 of 287) of his field goals and 40.6 percent (73 of 180) of his 3-point attempts while averaging 30.6 minutes

The divorce between Martin and ORU surfaced Sunday when Martin posted two tweets back to back.

“Officially Released!” Martin tweeted. Three hours later, he tweeted, “Recruitment back open!”

In two seasons, Martin scored a total of 607 points.

A poster at the other board asked if I knew why Kris transferred. I do not have a specific answer, but it is important to consider the state of the program around that time: After 17 years as head coach and assistant with the program, ORU fired Scott Sutton:

Bill Haisten: Jolted by his divorce from ORU, Scott Sutton says he is 'at peace'

Bill Haisten: Recruiting policy hurts basketball and results in big mistake at ORU

Honestly, unless he is officially ruled to be eligible immediately, Martin might be better off staying at Colorado State.... unless his bridge is burned. Why would he want to sit out 2 yearsin a row? Also, other schools have the same concern as OU. Why give a kid a scholarship for 2 years and only get a year of play out of him? He would have to be really special with the limited number of scholarships available. JMHO

My hunch is he will be eligible immediately, but I’m not sure OU can afford to wait on the ruling.

I can't help thinking that OU (at least partially) did not do right by this kid. It is unfortunate things did not work out, but I wish him all the luck in the future.

was he actually offered before HE tweeted he had accepted an offer? I don't know...I guess a coach re-tweeted what he did but that only means that coach was an idiot for not knowing...

“I was happy that Nico (Carvacho) decided to stay and it worked out for Kris Martin to able to stay,” Medved told the Reporter-Herald. “Those are obviously two guys that have a chance to have a real impact in our program over the next couple of years.”

Martin announced via Twitter he was headed to Oklahoma on March 27, but news came out the next day that Martin didn’t actually have a solid offer.
