2021 committ

Marshall is also pushing 60. I, personally, would rather go a little younger. Not saying it has to be a 35 year old, but I'd prefer younger than Marshall when the time comes.

I agree with skipping on Marshall, but it's not based on age.

If Lon retired, and we could hire Calipari, would you be for that? What about Mark Few or Bill Self? Jay Wright? If any of those coaches WOULD come to OU, wouldn't you jump on it?

The fact is the top coaches in America are 57 years +. Coach K, Mark Few, Bill Self, Tom Izzo, Calipari, Jay Wright.

There are some good ones that aren't AARP age, like Mick Cronin. Not that we could get them, but the best coaches are older.

Come on man, I should have to clarify that an older coach who is considered ELITE, a list of guys that are complete non-options for OU, wouldn't be the same as Marshall.

Let me rephrase.....I'm not interested in an older coach that would be interested in OU. Better?

nope. I'd want someone around 35 or so from a good coaching tree who can handle going into kids' homes and selling the school.

Fair enough.

It's just here are a lot of things that people list as reasons to get rid of Kruger, age being one of them, that they are willing to accept in other coaches. Like those I listed in my comparison of Kruger's record to Buzz Williams earlier in the thread.

You never hear Duke fans complain about Coach K being 73, or MSU fans complain about Izzo being 65. Crap, Houston just gave Kelvin a mega long-term deal at 65. Yet those wanting a change, say that Kruger is too old and needs to retire.

This just makes getting Trey Alexander that much more important!!!!

If we could land Alexander, along with Bijan and a couple of forwards...I would be happy!

Me too. Nothing I would like better than to sign Alexander.
I also like what I have seen of Bijan Cortes. He may not be as flashy as some want him to be, but he appears to have sound fundamentals to go with his high basketball IQ.

Like you, I’ll take Alexander and a couple of quality bigs and be very happy.

Jaxon Robinson played Trey Alexander's team in the state tournament a few days ago.

Robinson went 1/6 from the field for 6 points.

Alexander finished the game with 30 points. 7-of-15 from 3-point land, 10 rebounds, two steals and three blocked shots.

Alexander ain’t coming here either. Lon is going to go 0-3 on top 100 kids in the state of ok in the past 2 years. He did land 2 undersized 3star guards with very mediocre offer sheets, though. Awesome sauce.

I like Grant McCasland at UNT over a Buzz Williams. Solid recruiter and seems to be pretty good at building a program.

I would agree. Did a good job at Midland, and as asst and recruiter at Baylor. Great job so far at UNT.

He seems like he would have more upside. We can of see based on Buzz's record what his upside has been.

Recruiting has been the biggest problem for the last 4-5 years and it continues to be a huge problem. More evidence that Lon should retire.

Let's see if we land Collins or Alexander.

Curious though, what is the other evidence that Lon should retire?

The on court results for the last 4 years? His big12 record? His recruiting failures for the last 5 years?

Look, Lon is a great guy and a HOF Coach. What he did to bring this program back from the dead after capel should be celebrated and appreciated. However, Lon and the staff have failed to recruit at an acceptable level for the last 4/5 years. Look at the conference record over the last 4 years. Unacceptable.

The results are the evidence that he needs to retire or move on to another school.

Re: 2021 committ,

I disagree with those that saying Lon should go. Not saying there aren’t some legit complaint perhaps. But I think he has and is doing a good job.

Competitive every year even though he inherited a mess. NCAA all but one year advanced more than once. One final 4, and lost to champion. Second round last year and only lost to champion.

Absolutely love the open practices and the way he treats the kids and fans.

Produced 2 ncaa players of the year.

Great recruiting class last year. Hard to know but this could be effecting this years recruiting. Too early to complain about 2021 recruiting as we don’t know what will occur there.

I’m older than most of you. I remember people complaining about tubs at the end. They thought he hadn’t and would’nt come back from his head injury. Fans were complaining about Sampson. His offense sucked and couldn’t get good bigs, tired of judos etc. same with capel

I saw what I thought were flaws with all of them but liked all of them. The only one I thought should be fired was capel

We are a football school, our gym is a joke and we are in a small population state with few high d-1 players and no bigs ever. Considering everything I am pleased with the job has done.

Excellent points.

Great great post.

There are some legit issues as you say. But the positives and what he has done, like the tourney record, last year’s recruiting class ranking, get overlooked and swept under the rug.

Yet two of the three coaches before him did considerably better.

Interesting.

I didn't realize he was that old. In that case, I would prefer under 50.
