I can definitely get onboard with Grant McCasland

He's a great option... so is Eric Konkol at LA Tech. He is 43, Grant is also 43.

Grant makes more sense... recruiting the area more, worked for Baylor for a long time, Texas juco head coach, etc.

I would be thrilled with either. Those two would be my top 2 choices.

What is McCasland's style? I really think we need to go back to a tough nosed, defense-first approach, given the talent we're regularly able to recruit. Somebody that is going to instill that culture and style should be who we go after. No idea if that is McCasland or not.

29th in defense this year, 23rd last year. If you want to say somebody who attacks the glass more than that would be a fair point.

The stats suggest that is more Konkol... North Texas is #1 in scoring defense in C-USA but overall the rankings are better for LA Tech.

LA Tech is #2 in scoring defense (.3 away from North Texas at #1)
#1 in scoring margin
#1 in FG defense
#4 in 3pt defense
#1 in turnover margin
#1 in assist/turnover ratio
#4 in steals

They rank higher than North Texas in all these categories, except for the scoring defense by .3.

McCasland claims he is a defensive coach first though, but his teams have been more offense than defense. They've broken a bunch of school offense records.

So this thread has evolved into Lon good or gone. Nothing in his entire time here tells me he can recruit even a 2nd team all big 12 center unless the kid is from central OK. We are mentioned for kids all over the nation including legacy's yet the core contributors since Lon's first couple of classes have been mostly local kids. Yes we should support the program and take a glass half full attitude during the season, especially for the guys working there butts off but we are in purgatory until the best 5 guys includes a center.

This is where we are... Thriving on local talent that grew up wanting to play for OU..

What is funny about that, is that when I talk about all the local juco players they absolutely ignore like Devonte Bandoo, Alonze Verge, Mason Jones, Shak Juiston, Jermaine Haley, Vlad Broadziansky, etc people are like "proximity doesn't matter in recruiting!"...

The hell it doesn't! You think the odds of Brady Manek coming to OU if he was from Portland, Maine are the same as if he was from Harrah, OK? That is pure insanity.

I think more people question how you know OU "absolutely ignored" these players. Your endless posts (generally made with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight) are nearly always filled with unfounded, unsupported assumptions.

It's generally public knowledge when a school recruits a kid. Several recruiting sites report what schools are recruiting a kid.

I've already went over your hit/miss ratio for prospects you liked. It didn't go well & it continually won't because JUCO is harder to find these days, transfers is the better option, LK's MO isn't JUCO.
