2021 committ

I understand now. To my surprise (not really) there are articles online about SEC bagmen, some dating back to 2014.

If you believe the FBI reports about Self and other coaches paying players (and I do), schools in other conferences, including the Big 12 have bagmen. They’re called shoe agents.

No, these are different than shoe agents.

Just doesnt make sense. Manny O came up for visit last week vs Texas that he paid for minus tickets... wasnt "near" a committment and then boom AM this week.

Oh well.

Maybe he just really didn't like what he saw in person against texas. It was a really bad game from both teams

I agree with you about expectations, but what in Buzz's past makes you think he will have better results than OU.

He has career winning % at about .610, barely over .500 in the NCAA, only made it past the sweet 16 once, and despite coaching at different schools and conferences, he has never coached his teams to an outright conference title.

As I stated earlier, these are the same reasons people want to fire Kruger.

I don't understand all the lovefest for Buzz. Is it based on his career record that is arguably equal or weaker than Kruger's? Is it based on the fact he got a commitment from an instate recruit? Is it because he put a YouTube video out there about the national anthem? Is it just because he dresses cool, rants and raves on the sidelines and is more "into the game"? Well, so does Bruce Weber and KState and I'm pretty sure no one is in love with him.

I don't get it.

I think it may be because he’s a good dancer. How many coaches do you know with moves like this? :)

Seriously, you can’t discount Buzz’s personality, enthusiasm and charisma. He’s a people person. I am, too, which may be why I’m drawn to someone like him.

Lon is a fine man. I think everyone who knows him will agree with that. But his laidback, easygoing demeanor and style may not appeal to everyone, especially kids who are less than a third his age.

My point is, Lon may not be able to relate to most kids these days. I get that, because I struggle with it too. Yet I would like to think I’m as Hip (is that a slang word people use now?) as any grandparent around. I still listen to Motown R&B and Classic Rock. Kids today probably think Chubby Checkers is a board game for fat people. Our grandchildren don’t understand why I refuse to listen to Rap music. The majority of kids today would feel the same way.

This just makes getting Trey Alexander that much more important!!!!

If we could land Alexander, along with Bijan and a couple of forwards...I would be happy!

Lol, good points and good post, Ada.

I agree with you about Buzz being personable and charismatic, but Lon is very personable, just more laidback. But loving rap music or "identifying" with today's kids does not make one a good coach. We had that with a coach that publicy stated he debated with recruits and players, who was better, JayZ vs. TI, LilWayne vs. TI when he was here. And look how Capel turned out.

If I look at the top 5 coaches IMO, the youngest is 57 and all the way to 73- Few, Self, Izzo, Coach K, and Calipari. None of those are as "cool" as Buzz, and for the most part, all of them are much tougher, demanding coaches. But I don't think Buzz has the chance to equal any of their abilities.

My point is there are a lot of people falling in love with Buzz the guy, and I get it. But it doesn't make Buzz the coach all that great.

It is becoming apparent that Kruger is a liability in recruiting. If he can't lock down the borders, that is pathetic. Especially losing a top 40 Oklahoma Kid to TAMU, not even a blue blood. But of course, he did just went enough to stay afloat this year, and next year will be more of the same, except without Doolittle.

I disagree he is a liability and can't lock down the borders. That is too broad and general statement to make it accurate. Robinson pretty much stated he wanted to leave the state, and we are still in on 2 other top 50 players, including in-state Alexander. Plus we did get a top 150 commit in Cortes, which is also an in-state kid.

Jaxon Robinson played Trey Alexander's team in the state tournament a few days ago.

Robinson went 1/6 from the field for 6 points.

Alexander finished the game with 30 points. 7-of-15 from 3-point land, 10 rebounds, two steals and three blocked shots.

I haven't posted in a long time but I still stop by from time to time to read post.
I completely agree with this. I've never fully understood the love for Buzz. He's charismatic and gets his guys to play hard but that's about it. He's not really going to outcoach anyone. His ceiling is limited. OU is not getting to the final four with Buzz imo.
I know most of you hate this guy and Joe C would probably never give him a call but Gregg Marshall would be my guy hands down.

HARD pass on Marshall. I don't care how good a coach he is, that is a BAD fit.

If Williams can get Marquette to an Elite 8 and VT to the Sweet 16, he is capable of getting OU to the FF.

My oldest son was a very good basketball player in high school. He surprised me with a statement that if was a top player he would have chosen Duke, etc versus playing at his favorite school, OU. He attended OU on scholastic scholarships. Point being getting the best players in Oklahoma or outside ok Oklahoma, is far more difficult than most realize. We get what we can get. 5 star players will be rare except for the occasional Oklahoma player who’s wants to play at OU regardless.
How many 5 star players do we get being a top 10 school in football? None in 2020.

Manny O. isn't a consensus 5*. 247 has him as a 4*. He wasn't being recruited by the elite. We better find a way to start landing some high 4* kids, b/c some of the rest of the conference is. TT has two top 40 kids in their 2020 class. We know how KU recruits. OSU has the #1 recruit coming in. Baylor regularly lands top 100 kids. ISU has some top 100 kids. Manny's best offers were OU, aTm, and TT. We need to win a few of those battles. Doesn't bother me at all to lose Thompson to KU. Nothing we could do there.

First off, glad to see you posting!

As for Marshall, even if you set aside all the issues (complete jerk, thin-skinned, would never settle for being a distant second to football, wife is a psycho, etc.), he has made it past the first weekend of the tourney twice in his life. Yes, he is a good coach, but IMHO the actual results don't match the hype. If WSU hadn't made that out-of-nowhere FF run (which is now 7 years ago) and then beat up on a horrendous league the following year, I don't think nearly as many people would view him as a great coach. But he really is a jerk -- if you listen to his interviews and hear how he treats fans, players, media, etc., it is pretty clear that he thinks he is better than anyone he comes in contact with.

Marshall is also pushing 60. I, personally, would rather go a little younger. Not saying it has to be a 35 year old, but I'd prefer younger than Marshall when the time comes.

Assuming you’re not talking about their regular season game, the results were similar. Alexander clearly outplayed and outscored, Robinson, and that from an Ada fan who wanted to see Robinson in the C&C.

I think it’s possible, maybe likely, that OU slow-played Robinson because they wanted Alexander more. If so, I’m fine with that. No question in my mind that Trey is the best player. .
