Kruger sticking with new-look lineup | NewsOK

Kruger said the practices leading up to Saturday's game have been productive, with a clear focus on improving on the defensive end after Kansas carved up Oklahoma on that end Monday.

“We've got to work to get better defensively. We'll have stretches where we feel good about what we're doing, then we don't,” Kruger said. “That's always on me — improving our habits and improving our focus or whatever the case might be, not doing what we needed to do on the defensive end.”

It’s good to finally see a focus on defense! Wish it had come a lot sooner.

I don’t know if it’s good strategy at this stage.

This is a flawed team any way you look at it, but when they had success it was because they were hitting shoots, not because of defensive stops.

Agreed. But when the shots aren’t falling you've got to keep the other team from scoring. Thst seems to be where we are now.

Is this belated focus on defense too late for a team that is somewhat flawed on both sides of the ball? We’ll know more after today.

I think it's more than a bit late - but I do respect the fact that Lon likes to leave more on the players to getting thru their ills. However I think in this case he should have moved on the problem much quicker.

Let's hope we see a renewed group out there today with an extra skip in their step.

If we are going with defense can someone explain Mcgusty over Odomes? Mcgusty is the worst wing defender by far. He plays zero defense and added with TY’s defensive issues where did we improve? Also our new defensive lineup got down 17-3 to KU and could’ve easily been 30-3 if KU would have hit a few more wide open 3’s

Odomes hasn't been playing good defense either. McGusty at least gives you another shooter/scorer so the opponents defense can't sag off of him. Odomes should be the sixth man that brings energy off the bench. Hustling, scrapping, pressuring full court, rebounding, etc.

lol, no chit..just wow. Ah well...

BOOMER~

careful now. I am just trying to respect how our coach does things. No reason to be mean to me.

I was too. I knew the answer before I asked “if it was too late.”

The emphasis on defense should begin in the first preseason practice, not when the season is almost over.

I agree with Mcgusty being the better offensive player (it’s not even close) but it further proves my point that we aren’t going defensive. CJ TY & Kam don’t guard very well but give us the best chance to score from the guard spots.

I'm excited that McGusty and Muni put up bit numbers after being in the starting lineup. I am NOT excited about how poorly the new starting five started the game on Monday. They fell into a 20-4 hole REAL quick.
