KU thugs at it again

so OU's guy shoots an uzi out of the athletic dorms during the snowball fight and it's "cantankerous" ... they shoot a fricking BB gun and they're "lawless"? please.

elbow in the face? the kid LL hit never played again and no one calls him "bully".

Some baseball team puke was trying to get some off of Mario's girlfriend? of course there was a fight. guarantee you we've had those on OUr campus.

as for Morningstar - do you really wanna go there? a college kid was drinking? Gee, that type of thing must only happen at KU.

sorry JMizz but "thug" existed from the 30's and beyond. It was STILL a term used frequently in hockey (along with enforcer) and it has been used forever to describe hacksters in the NBA, to wit:
Oakley, Mahorn, Laimbeer, Jim Loskotoff (50's and 60's Celtics thug whose ONLY job was to beat others up) and even Paul Silas.

The rappers stole the term, not vice versa.

You just proved my point. Yes it was a term used to describe Gangsters in the mafia era. That era died out, or became less mainstream, and the term went away in the 70's and 80's.

You used hockey players and well known bullies in basketball to try and solidy your platform that the word thug is mainstream. Young black males are called thugs today based solely on appearance, long before they ever PROVE that they are thugs, like the people that you describe.

The use of the word thug is totally different than it was in 1930, and I know that you understand the difference. I never said that hip hop coined the phrase, I said that hip hop glorified the term, just like the N-word, and then everyone started using it to describe ALL blacks, justifed or not.

:clap:clap

It has become the 2000's version of the N-word.... Very interesting articles on the internet about the use of the word THUG......
BS! I hear the term thug used more in the NHL, than anywhere else. How many African-Americans play hockey?

Usually I agree with you. But, not in this case.

you're right there. now they judge it by appearance where it was about actions before.

my bad.

thug
[thuhg]

a cruel or vicious ruffian, robber, or murderer.

ruf·fi·an
[ruhf-ee-uhn, ruhf-yuhn]

Morris Twins - http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3545569 (lawless)

http://cjonline.com/sports/basketball/2010-12-23/morris_ejected_in_ku_win (bully)

Mario Little - http://www.ksallink.com/?cmd=displaystory&story_id=15698&format=html

Brady Morningstar - http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4528639

etc, etc, etc.

So other thugs would be Dusty D, Bomar, BCG, Eddie and Sean Sutton, Rawls, etc.... Now link me to any article, report, or thread where those guys are referred to as thugs.....

Sorry, I should have wrote a disclaimer at the bottom of my post..."This is by definition the likely reason(s) why some people call KU players thugs and it doesn't represent my views"

I don't care what people call them honestly. I called them "suburban gangstas" in the earlier part of this thread as a joke.

See CoolM's post just below yours. The word is used in hockey to define or label true thugs. It is used against young black males who have never done anything to be labelled thugs. The Griffins and AD are perfect examples.

Same as the N-word. Blacks were called N's based solely on appearance/color. Now black athletes are called thugs well before they prove to be thugs....

Like I just wrote, I was just defining "thug". I don't call people thugs myself.

Fair enough. I used a broad brush when I said no articles, reports, etc.... You have to admit that there is a huge disparity between the people who will call a non black/hispanic based on actions, and those who use the word to describe black athletes based solely on appearances.

With that said, I always respect your posts, and I appreciate your knowledge.

I'm not sure I can agree or disagree here. I truly don't know.

Disclaimer: By no means am I advocating on behalf of the Sqawks. It is always a good time to bash anything KU, os-who, texa$$. I almost stopped coming here when a fellow Sooner poster was bashed on this board for making fun of os-who. It is always cool to make fun of os-who.....:p
