What would you guys run in these scenarios? This year we are 0-2 in these situations, with Woodard being 0-2, launching contested shots. Who should take the final shot?
Neither one of those plays were designed for Woodard to take the shot. The opponents, who are also well coached, defended well and denied our shooters the ball both times.

I actually thought Woodard played pretty well tonight. He only turned the ball over once and thought he did a good job running the offense against a good defense. If that last shot would have gone in, he would have been the hero.
The problem is talent in that situation .We don't have one single guard that can consistently create his own shot.
We should have one player that could dribble penetrate and either get a great look or get fouled.
Instead we settle for a contested fade away by our worst shooting guard on the floor.
Our guards are easy to defend because they are basically spot up shooters minus cousins who can finish but is still an average ball handler( back to back turnovers toward the end of the game)
Last year Woodard made living at the charity stripe this year he's scared to death to go inside.
Our guards settle for way to many jump shots , that's their game , and that's why we won't ever get over the hump with this backcourt.
I miss Nolan.

He was terrible on defense in the first half. All of those 3's Washington made were when he got lost on D.
Basketball speaking, you actually have no idea what you are talking about in this case. Most of the first half breakdowns were actually Buddy, and scramble plays from others having to recover. Secondly, they came off transition busts, where Jordan is supposed to defend rim every time until the defense recovers. Be irritated that Jordan didn't hit the shot or blame coaches that they played stagnant half court offense all night, but don't claim things that have no merit.
It is always amazing though to me that people focus on the last possession, when in reality it was any number of possessions that cost them. How about Buddy missing a dunk he should have laid in? Isaiah blowing a layup. Isaiah costing them three points off the flagrant possession. Thomas blowing a layup? Thomas fouling in half court under 15 on shot clock? The total selfishness in offense in a five minute stretch by Isaiah and Buddy? Jordan not hitting an open 3? The list goes on and on. Spangler and Jordan played solid "basketball" Isaiah shot the ball well, although he continues to make bad basketball decisions. Outside of that, OU didn't play well. Buddy continues to be a one trick pony, and until that changes this team is second round good.
Well I was sitting with a former college coach at the game and he said your team has a glaring weakness at point guard on both ends of the floor. He agreed with you on Spangler by the way.
Having been in this game a long time in the same capacity...I can assure you that if the other issues I mentioned were fixed, then no one makes those claims. I know for a fact that Kruger doesn't feel the same way, as also many of the other coaches in the Big 12. Bottom line, many players were responsible to this end.
Isaiah and Buddy need to start playing with an offensive and defensive conscience for this team to progress effectively. This is a hard thing to fix by coaches in the style of offense they play. Eventually, you have to trust players to play the right way...
Last year the refs were trying to adjust to the change in emphasis in hand-checking on a drive. They called a ton of fouls in the early season, but after some "guidance" that too many free throws were being shot, they quit making those calls in conference and post-season play.
He won't get that call this season. They won't bail a player out on a wild drive to the bucket. Either he makes it or turns it over on the miss. No more marginal calls.
2013 hand check issues
He's not even driving to the bucket this season. It's not like he's driving in out of control , not getting a call and turning it over / getting it blocked .Hes way too tentative this season .
The rules are tweaked every season but college and the nba are set up for dribble penetration . Ifs been that way for years .
Exactly, for the calls in question, one way or the other, cannot materialize without taking the ball to the rim, which he has backed away from for the most part during the course of the season.
He has been driving less, but that has multiple parts to it. One, there is less room to operate as we have two bigs on the floor that generally operate 15 feet and in. Two, the offense has to have someone at guard that looks to settle things down and make plays for post touches. Buddy and Isaiah are really bad in this area. Third, I think Woodard is driving less due to that call not being automatic any more. A good pg should operate in an arena of percentages.
What we have right now is a pg and bigs that don't mesh in style with our two wings. Woodard has to be more aggressive in looking for his own penetration opportunities. However, that also means offensive decisions have to change. Great offense happens when the ball touches multiple sides of the floor/and condenses and expands defense through post touches...right now OU rarely touches two sides of the floor, and never touches the post except through set plays. Want to see us improve? It won't happen against good teams until Buddy and Isaiah touch multiple sides instead of jacking up bad shots or forcing the bounce. There is a 23% increase in successful offense when touching a third side, and a 29% increase on a fourth side. Look at the Spurs as a reference.
