Lattin Stats

what boca and wt are trying to say is that we shouldn't read too much into lineage or inflated stats, because yeah, 13 steals is against some bad competition. doesn't mean he won't be an outstanding player. i trust kruger and his ability to scout, and others feel the same or he wouldn't be a four star guy. but big expectations, especially right away, don't always help. ask wiggins. but the good news is that lattin is right here in the metro. they play ponca city at 5:30 at moore hs. i plan to check him out sometime this weekend. and we will all have a much better idea of how he will help us next year.

The Lattin fish tale keeps growing. Gary off the cuff a while back said a coach told him "Lattin would do nothing for us until Yo Yo put 20 lbs on him". That totally squares with the skinny kid in his AAU video last summer who was a 6 pt 5 rebound guy with virtually no hops.

Now we get some outrageous twitter stats that aren't backed up by a single article in any newspaper & he's playing against 5/6A caliber competition and a program altering talent. lol Lattin is a nice prospect because he's 6'9 but after watching the tape Buford is the guy most likely to give us anything next season. Lattin could very well redshirt.

You have to be the worlds champion at making statements that ultimately make you look foolish.

Lattin will not redshirt. Neither will Buford. McNeace is the only redshirt candidate in our 2014 class. When Lattin proves you wrong next fall, will you man up and admit it?

Or maybe that term, "program altering" just means different things to different people. I get the feeling some of you would call Spangler a program alter-er. That term to me is reserved for guys like Tisdale, Blake, Price, and maybe even down to guys like Blaylock, King, and Eduardo types (warning, my list is not all-inclusive). Lattin has a LONG ways to go to reach that level, IMO, but I am excited about what he brings to our team.
Wayman was a program alterer.
Alvan was a program alterer.
Blake was a program alterer.

I think Mookie may have been, too.

Hollis? Eduardo? I don't think so.

If Lattin can come in next year and contribute as much as Booker and Woodard have this year I'm going to be thrilled!

Exactly. It's not a knock on Lattin to tap the breaks a little. What he could be in a couple years is what makes him a good prospect. It's exciting that Kruger is bringing in high school guys he has 4-5 years to develop.

This. I've ignored this goofball from the day I found the ignore feature.

Not exactly, you are calling him a 6'9 player with no hops. Comparing him to Bennett and ridiculously spouting 6&5. That's not tapping the brakes, it's stomping on them. The question is why? What does this do for you?

Ok, lets get some things straigh. A coach says that a player will be "program altering" THe question is what does he mean. Lattin can come in next year be a defense and reboud specialist and he would be Program altering because this program needs that help for Spangler and does not nessicalry need the scoring. Three years down the line with the 3 guards are gone, we will then need the scoring.

So years 1-2 progam altering could mean defense and rebounds
Year 3-4 Scoring.

He is athletic, Tall, and seems to be able to hit a mid range jump shot and defend at least from the videos I have seen. I would say program altering.

Someone like Tisdale and Griffen would be program defining players.

Exactly. That was a quote from a coach. It was not an off handed comment. There is no internal question or doubt that Yo Yo will get his job done.

Your name describes me. I do quantitative analysis for a living. When a guy goes from 6-5-1 in AAU to stuffing the stat sheet against unknown competition I'm skeptical of the data set. As for his hops I watched again & never saw him above the rim on a highlight tape. Buford is seen viciously throwing down with 2 hands at 6'6", getting his shot off the dribble & looks noticeably stronger.

I'm not a homer.

Are you Skip Bayless?

You may not be a homer but you are either a troll, an idiot or most likely, both.

You're skeptical of the twitter stat data but are putting zero credence to the following:

1. The Kid has several high offers to play basketball.
2. Is a nationally ranked recruit by nearly every service.
3. Lon Kruger believes in him.

And are instead replacing all that data with a 2 minute video of him. THIS IS CLOWN logic or "analysis".

I think you are missing the point and framing the problem wrong. Baseball isn't different than any other sport. I could have used an example of pro athlete instead of baseball. This is the computation. Calculate the possibility of a random child playing pro sports. Then, note the incidents of sons of pro athletes that have become pro athletes. The difference between those two numbers are not miniscule. They are astronomical. Linage is the single most accurate predictor of athletic success. There is no question about that.

Kruger took over as the primary recruiter on Lattin. But, one of the assistants scouted him. made the initial contacts, and brought him to Kruger. It is that assistant that I had the conversation with.

I'll repeat. I asked what caliber of competition, relative to Oklahoma HS basketball, was Lattin hanging these gaudy stats on. He said, "not every night, but, typically 5A or 6A type competition." He then gave the example of the Texas A&M signee that Lattin lit up the last time he saw him in person.

I said, "Coach, if Lattin is hanging those numbers up against decent competition, he has a chance to be a program altering talent at OU." Coach said, "yes, we think that he has a chance to be just that."

You are free to come up with your own definition of terms. You are welcome to your own predictions based on Google search expertise.

hahaha! love it!

I won't get too high on Lattin as an incoming freshman, but with our guards and Spangler year older we won't need to ask do much other than come in and play solid D and rebound.

I've been a little disappointed with Bennett's rebounding and hope he improves the rest of the season, but when you back up a guy like Spangler it's a safe assumption that there will be a slight drop-off. Too bad it's more than slight.

Can you read entire paragraphs? Do you have a grasp on the english language?

bocabull 1/22/2014 3:55 PM Lattin "has the size & bloodlines to be a player and at this point Krugers talent evaluation has proven better than the recruiting rankings."

bocabull 1/22/2014 7:48 PM Lattin's "got potential but will need some work".

bocabull 1/23/2014 1:32 PM "What he could be in a couple years is what makes him a good prospect. It's exciting that Kruger is bringing in high school guys he has 4-5 years to develop."

Was blake really a program alterer?

Okay, I went back today and rechecked with my source. This is what Coach said. "It is fair to be skeptical about some of Lattin's competition. Sometimes the best the opponents can do is throw a 6' 4/5" guy at him that is capable of banging him around some, but, can't really stop him. However, we have seen him enough against good competition to think that he is capable of getting 20 and 10 against about anyone"
