Let's talk K-State

They're very solid! Their young guys can really play. I'm expecting a battle.

"Beating the 90th-ranked team on the road is about as difficult as beating the 50th-best team on a neutral floor, which is roughly as difficult as beating the 20th-best team on one’s home floor." K-State is presently #46 in KenPom (51 RPI).
Interesting. Sounds right!

Their best player, Kamau Stokes, the point guard is out for the rest of the season for knee surgery. So, that helps us.

ah, yes...he was playing well. Feel for him...never good. BUT, that helps alleviate my concern!

If Budke (a walk-on) is playing a ton - did last night against ku..then that is not a good sign.

They did manage to close the gap a few times against ku but then ku would go on a run..prob similar to what we will do.

Tough break for the young man, hope he recovers okay

That will hurt them. Stokes is a good, young PG but I didn't think he was their best player. In our first game against KSU, he played 28 minutes and scored 5 points (2-8, and 1-3 from 3), with 3 assists, and 3 steals. They will miss his quickness. I saw them carrying him from the court after he got injured against Mississippi in the SEC challenge and could tell he was hurt bad.

Kstate may keep it close for 25 minutes but they lost a starter that means a lot.

We may need to pressure them full court and play the bench more.

I don't really get why people say this. He took over a really strong Illinois program. It was 1st in the Big Ten his first two seasons. By his fourth he finished 4th, then 9th. He was tied for second in 2009 but the conference was Michigan State and 8 teams within 2 games of .500. Then it was 5th, tied for 4th and 9th. At KSU it has ben even worse. He won 27 games his first year, 20 his next, 15 his next and 13 (to date).

I don't think he is a very good coach at all.

Actually, you proved my point. There's no such thing as a lousy coach who played for a national championship. Your post clearly shows what he can do when there is a lot of talent in place. Like I said prior, he struggles with recruiting which your post proves out. I think he's gone after this year because of his inability to recruit.

I thought KSU played amazingly well for the first 10-15 minutes of that game yesterday. They were obviously overmatched, but no question they played with a lot of heart...and they'll come to play Saturday. As long as OU matches their intensity, we'll go to 8-2 in conference play.

Yes, I agree - Bruce Weber can absolutely coach which is why he did so well at Illinois when he inherited Bill Self's team. However, he could not recruit to Illinois when Chicago is right next door. Same thing at KSU - he inherits a team coaches them up which is why they swept a very good OU team last year. However the talent is dwindling and the victories are going with it. That being said, it will be a tough game in Manhattan on Saturday.

I bet he gets one more year because he cleaned house this past year and got rid of all the bad seeds and they have a decent team.

You might be right about that, though I think it delays the inevitable. He'll end up back at a high mid-major (like where he started off at Southern Illinois) where he'll do well. He'll recruit competitively with the schools in that conference, but he'll probably be the best bench coach.

Also, the current AD is the one who forced out Frank Martin and then hired Weber.

That's why many KSU fans don't like him because they loved Frank Martin and Frank can coach and recruit. Usually the AD is more patient with his hires than with hires from a separate AD and Weber doesn't have some of the baggage of Martin like the courtside demeanor and such.

Dean Wade and Steven Hurt are pretty good players and tough match ups because of their mid range games.

I imagine Wade being kind of a Matt Freeman type guy except not nearly as good a three point shooter. He has good form and has a chance to be a threat by the time he's a junior.

Absolutely worried about this game, I expect it to come down to the wire.

Very questionable officiating to say the least in Manhattan once again.
