Marcus smart just hit a fan!

I would suggest that if you go to Walmart and push someone please plan on being arrested for assault because that is what it is. Assault is not the amount of damage but the act which pushing an individual would be.

I loved this one from the Poke board: "Love ya Tra, but allowing Marcus to run wild over the last month kicking chairs, flopping, getting in ref's faces, tonight was the lid blowing off the pressure cooker. I guess Ford is more interested in recruiting the stars and playing patty cake instead of demanding discipline. Just because you are a high school superstar doesn't mean you are above the University and the program. Travis has failed in instilling this in his players. It's why there has been so much attrition. He needs to go."

I'd be surprised if he got more than a one game suspension.

I'm guessing because there is no precedent for it according to the Big12 themselves .. that one game may be the max, I would not be surprised in the least if he were to get just a public reprimand from the Big12 office...

Hope you are wrong. There will be no lessons learned with a one game only suspension.

I don't think his actions necessarily deserve any more than that.

He didn't GO into the stands. He didn't attack or punch the guy. That fan obviously has a reputation in regards to saying stuff to players. And while Smart should not have reacted how he did, I don't think he reacted in a way where he should lose multiple games, or the rest of the season.

I think a lot of the negativity on Smart is coming from his past stuff. But none of that stuff is against the rules, the law, or any of that. It's just annoying, and no good basketball. The flopping. Quitting on his teammates. Kicking HIS chair. To me, none of that plays a factor in how you view the "shove" last night, bc they aren't the same types of thing. Basically, in the eyes of the Big 12, this is a 1st offense. Suspend him for a game. Tell him he has no leash left in regards to stuff like this. And offer him some anger management classes if he'll take them.

Did he have a history of this type of behavior in high school? Or is this the first time in his athletic career that he's faced any type of adversity?

First time, from what I know of him.

He is competitive, he turned down millions to come back b/c he thought osu would have a team that could make a FF run. He loses a teammate to injury. He loses another that was kicked off the team. His team, and himself to some degree, is underachieving big time. He realizes he is about to lose to a TT team that is probably going to finish 8th in the Big 12 at best.

I get why he is doing some of the stuff he is doing. But he can't do it. He has to keep his cool. In think he'll learn from it all in time, but nobody is sure how long it will take. Like you said, this is likely the first time he hasn't won and won big on a basketball court, and he is dealing with it all poorly.

Smart has put OSU and the Big-12 Conference is a bad position. No matter what penalty is imposed on Smart, the school and conference will likely be criticized for it on the national stage. Episodes like this are not good for anyone. It is a no-win situation.

ESPN and the rest are very critical of Smart right now, but the media love a "good" story which allows them criticize someone to the "delight" (interest) of their national audience. The media will happily turn their criticism towards the school and conference if it will allow them to milk the story a bit longer.

It is no fun being an OSU basketball fan right now. Mr. Smart has seen to that.

I watched the game last night. I think smart's past actions are being noted by the refs. From my viewpoint, the refs aren't giving smart the calls that most stars get anymore. It is frustrating to him and the team. His behavior shows him to be very emotional.....a player that will do anything to get the win, very competitive. Sometimes players need to be sat down; let them think about life and their behavior. Coach needed to show some leadership earlier this year.

Maybe I'm seeing it wrong, but I think a week of watching would be a start. But I would be surprised if he was suspended for more than one game.

Whoa. Did u watch the push? How can you say he didn't go into the stands? Wow.

Pushing a fan doesn't sound like a big deal to you? Sounds like you don't think so bc it was his first time? That's ridiculous thinking.

A couple of situations come to mind:

1) Remember when Roy Williams got all bent out of shape when on of his players fell at the north end of the court? I can't remember the exact situation.

2) There was an incident with a Texas player at GIA several years ago. I can't remember the particulars about that, either.

Who could forget the incident at GIA? T.J. Ford and Royal Ivey dove into the stands after a loose ball and Ford inadvertently bumped into a pregnant woman. The woman's husband attacked Ford and a few Longhorns invaded the stands to defend their teammate. I just found the video on YouTube and the incident occurred on 1/5/02. I can't believe it's been 12 years since the likes of T.J. Ford, Royal Ivey, James Thomas, etc played in the Big 12. I feel so old!

I remember asking myself at the time what a pregnant woman was doing sitting in the front row of a sporting event. How could her husband allow that? Players dive into the stands at least a few times per game in basketball.

I'll be shocked if Smart gets a one-game suspension.

He set a precedent by going into the stands to shove a fan last night. As I see it, OSU and/or the Big 12 have no choice but to suspend him for multiple games for his actions. The eyes of the country are on the Big 12 and OSU right now. One, or both, has to step up to the plate and deal harshly with this matter to send a message to future college players, as well as would-be college athletes that this cannot and will not be condoned.

They absolutely have to make an example of this. Send a message that you don't under any circumstances go into the stands.

As an OU fan, i would love for him to get multiple game suspension. As a black male i probably would have done the same thing Smart did as well, especially in the middle of a highly emotional loss. However, I'd still need a multiple game suspension for my actions.

If you were an OSU fan, what action would you want taken against your best player in this circumstance?

If an OU player had lost his cool and made the “fan push” ... what action would you want OU to take?

The basketball PROGRAM and SCHOOL are bigger than any individual player. What action would be best for the program and the school?

A reprimand or one game suspension my not be the best decision for OSU, or for Marcus Smart.

I probably should be able to figure this out, but I cannot. What was your username before you switched it to what it is now?

His team in HS was dominant

After sleeping on it think he gets 3 games (10% of the season). He didn't go into the stands to confront someone, he was already there after a play in transition.

He went further into the stands to confront the fan.
