Matt Korcheck

Given the numbers at OU, I view virtually any kid that is being recruited by schools like Pitt, Marquette and Arizona as a positive. Pitt is having a bad year but Marquette is currently ranked 8th in the country and in second place in the Big East. Arizona is having a down year by recent standards but they are in 3rd place in the Pac 12. Additionally, New Mexico is tied for 1st in the Mountain West. These schools are not recruiting this kid because they have no other choices.

They are recruiting this kid as a back-up in case something happens to their 1-3 options.

Regarding Korcheck: Maybe he is a high priority target, maybe he is a back-up plan. None of us really know for sure.

Regarding Arent: Kid has provided limited depth, has been a body in practice, and hopefully will graduate and get a degree to help our APR numbers. Not terrible for a last minute JUCO pick-up.

The way many of you refer to Arent, it appears you've decided that he will never rise above being a 5-minute per game player whose only role is to provide a warm body off the bench when all the other bigs are in foul trouble.

You may be right – I don't profess to know. But at times, the kid has shown at least some ability. And unlike some recent transfers, he at least doesn't mind mixing it up inside with opposing bigs. And besides, he has almost no Div. 1 experience and like almost every player before him, he needs time to adjust to this level of play. Why not give him a pass for a season before we crown him as OU's next great bust?

What I don't get is how you could ever refer to a JUCO kid that got picked up last minute after a regime change as a "bust" to begin with unless you had unrealistic expectations of the kid from the start. I learned my lesson from the "Captain" on spring JUCO's...that is why I think Grooms has been so impressive overall.

The problem is that he can't get minutes on this year's squad, and next year we lose only C.J. Washington's 10 minutes again, and add a guy who will be taking 25+ minutes a game. There just isn't room for him to really contribute, barring injury.

Agreed. Still don't see why people call Greg Oden a bust...his body just quit on him.

A serious question: With all of these jucos are we gonna be in the same tourney ban boat that UConn currently is? Not that it matters this season, but in the coming seasons it will. :(

Mbaye will be getting around 18mins a game.

Not sure about that prediction, seems a little light. Even if he didn't start, I've got to think he'd see starter type minutes based on everything that we've seen and heard about the kid.

He's not better than Fitz or Osby. Fitz has avg 30 mins a game the past 2 years. Osby is getting 30mpg this season. Thats 20 mins available. Arent will get some minutes next year as well. Mbaye is not going to play the 3. Its going to be great to have him come off the bench for us but Fitzgerald has improved every season so you should expect him to be better next season so his minutes aren't going to take that big of a hit.

Wrong.

Not sure that you can add a guy to the roster with prior D-1 experience that is every bit as physically gifted as Osby and tell me that he is only going to see 18 minutes per game on a team that will finish almost last in the conference. I have no earthly idea when or where the guy plays, but I'm almost positive he'll be doing something on the floor for more than 18 minutes a game.

We are last not b/c of Fitz and Osby but b/c we have a bench that can't put any points on the board. 2 of our top 3 scorers are not our problem. Our 2 leading rebounders are not our problem. The problem is...when 1 of those guys goes out Arent or Washington comes in and gets us 0 points. Clark goes out and Neal comes in and every so often hits a 3. Or Pledger comes out and we have...oh wait...we don't have another shooting guard on the roster. Instead we have to bring in a PG that can't win the starting PG spot over a PG that can't score.

Osby and Fitzgerald are going to start next year...they are going to be even better next year and MBaye will be a great addition to this team but he is not going to take that many minutes away from 2 of our 3 best players.

Reports last year were that Osby was the best player in practice, and he has been one of our best players this year. Reports this year are that M'Baye is the best player on the team, and I see no reason not to believe it. Especially considering Fitz is only half a player (no defense and no rebounds), I would be shocked if M'Baye doesn't get a ton of minutes next year.

Someone is giving you some faulty information. M'baye could play #3, #4, or #5 better than the current starters. Osby is good enough and will probably be better next season. So, there isn't any reason for him to play there even tho he is probably a natural college #4.

Mike Baldwin and Eschbach, two reporters with access to the coaching staff have both said recently that it was their belief that he would start at the #3. The team will certainly be better if that is the case. After catching most of the early practices, that looked like the plan to me too. He has the mobility and range to be good in that spot.

My personel preference would be that Cam gained some offensive consistancy, M'baye bulked up alittle and moved inside to displace Fitz. Kruger is getting alittle offensive production out of Fitz. But, M'baye is a superior offensive weapon and he can rebound and defend.

M'baye is the best player in the gym. You won't find anyone to say differently. He will get 30-35 min.per game.

I wouldnt count on the Arizona juco league.

The only leagues you can really trust in juco is the Kansas, Texas, and southern (mississippi, florida) juco leagues. But, if you are going to recruit jucos it should be primarily out of Texas and Kansas.

Texas, Kansas, Iowa, Idaho, Missouri = good juco basketball.
Jayhawk league in Kansas qas sure dood to Billy as was Midland in Texas.

Osby might have been the best player in the gym last year but Pledger is the best player on this team.

I just laugh how you guys continue to write off current players. Fitz has avg 12ppg in the big 12 the past 2 seasons while MBaye avg 12ppg and 5rpg last season in the MWC...a way weaker conference. He also shot 16% beyond the arc as well...so you can write off him playing the 3.

You guys can pencil in who ever you guys want...come next season...the starters will be the same starters that are starting this year. Osby and Fitz will still get the majority of the post minutes.
