Matt Korchek.. JUCO PF/C..visiting OU

But let's get the 8pt and 6rb guy because he has recruiting hype.

We don't even know if Wright will ask for, and be granted, a release.

And if you are insinuating we didn't recruit him hard enough earlier, well, I don't think anybody saw him improving to the point he has. He wasn't suppose to be an OU caliber player.

George Mikan is the one who is not OU caliber. This is like groundhog day. Arent, Jurick, Robert Goff, Orlando Allen.......

Korcheck averaged about 15&7 this year.. but don't let facts get in the way of a good ***** fest...

The 6'10 cheerleader already on the bench averaged 22 and 12 last year. Ah forget it. Sign him him up.

Then people wonder why there is only 1000 fans in the stands when Oklahoma kids have to meet the special seal of approval, but the carpet is rolled out for 7ft stiffs who didn't have the grades to qualify in the first place.

You think attendance would be better simply by signing a few OK kids? That is beyond ridiculous.

And we've had plenty of HS big men fail at OU, just as much as JUCO's. Hardrick? Ahmed? Gerber (not sure he was ever on scholarship)? Larry Turner? Matt Gipson?

Larry Turner played in the NBA. Ahmed supports my theory. Save the scholly for someone worth it or another year instead of doing what they do every year, waste it on a developmental big stiff. Especially one with two years of eligibility.

As for Hadrick, he is the rare bust Oklahoma kid OU or OSU has had.

We can't keep going into seasons with open scholarships. We need players on the bench if for nothing else, to practice against. Neither you nor I have any idea how good or bad Korchek is. I have no idea. He's probably not Taj Gray, but that isn't what we're recruiting him to be. We're recruiting him to be C.J. Washington. To be Johnnie Gilbert, or Joseph Szeindre(sp). We can't miss out on a guy like Korchek in hopes that Wright asks for his release, gets his release, and wants to come to OU. My guess is he stays with TU.

We don't need to save the 'ship though, we'll have a hard enough time filling the opens ones we do have for 2013.

I'm with you DM. Given the option between a 6' 9" Oklahoma kid and taking a flyer on another JUCO big, I would go with the high school kid who still has four years to play. IMO, Wright has a huge upside and he is just getting started in his development as a legit D-1 prospect.

But even if Wright asked for and receives his release, there is no guarantee that he will want to go to OU. Kruger and his coaches can't legally pursue him unless he makes the first move and contacts them to express an interest. I don't believe LK will take the Scott Drew approach and do it through the back door, via a third party or by dropping not-so-subtle hints with a family member. That's not his style.

Having said all of that, if Wright is not available, I see nothing wrong with bringing Korchek on board, even if he reshirts next season to work on his game and his conditioning. By all accounts, he has potential that appears to be higher than that of Arent, Jurick, Goff or the Big O.

the juco guy redshirting doesn't look good if your the 6'10 Woodson kid...

Why? Woodson would start over Korchek.

I also don't think Korchek is coming to OU to redshirt. That doesn't really help us next year, which I think is what LK is looking for. So either he'll come here and play, or he probably won't come here. JMO.

Discounting the possibility that not everyone from last season's team will return. Is at least premature and at worse, mistaken.

I could easily go 4 deep. An even fans with some sort of allegence to some individual players couldn't objectively disagree with a couple. My preference would be that if Kruger found 4 decent prospects that were willing to play at Oklahoma, He should sign them up and deal with the consequences.

It isn't likely that Kruger would have to clear player dismissals with Joe C. or anyone else for that matter. Well, mayby Stoops. The football program pays his salary. Kruger's job is to win clean. If there are more than 2 out there this signing period, he needs to get them.

I don't really care. He's gonna suck and by the time everyone figures it out we will be talking about another juco bandaid.

We are also talking about a guy who isn't even available right now. Obviously I am no Oklahoma recruiting guru, but until September, don't really remember hearing much about Wright.

How does Arizona juco ball compare to California juco ball, because Arent's stats were far more impressive than this guy.

AZ JUCO ball is hit and miss.

Only stat that matters for a JUCO forward we are recruiting is rebound rate and percentage, which probably aren't available to anyone but the coaching staffs.

Ridiculous. Four guys are not leaving the team. There are only 9 returning players. 6 are seniors. One is M'Baye. One is from OKC. The final one has started for two seasons and grew up in north Texas.

What was ridiculous about that comment? I thought I was being benign.

You don't think it possible that one or more players transfer out? Or are you saying that you couldn't find two that would be OK with you?

Two have already left under Kruger. Three if you count the Hardwick kid. Syracuse just announced 3 kids were transfering. Stoops just cut several loose.

Fair or not, these kids are all on one year ships. There is no confusion about that from either party. Every year they are expected to earn their way to another one.

Coaches can get a bad rap for spinning kids out for purely competitive purposes. Kruger probably doesn't make a habit of that. And I would be surprised if he ever did that with a kid he recruited and brought into the program.

But, this is a different deal. He didn't recruit or sign most of these players. He is under no legal, moral, or ethical obligation to keep any of them. Kruger is responsible from the program. If any of them have failed to meet his standards of performance, and if he can land someone that makes the team better, I would expexct him to make that move. Wouldn't you? Don't you want the team to be better sooner rather than later?
