Matt Korcheck, aka George Mikan, returns for his second year at Camp Cochise after averaging 8 ppg and 6 rpg during his freshman campaign … Led the ACCAC in field-goal percentage his freshman year at a 64 percent clip from the floor … Made an early name for himself by breaking the backboard at the annual ACCAC Jamboree in fall of ’10 at Phoenix College on a dunk over EAC’s Daz Starke … Played well at Jerry Mullens Top 100 Juco showcase in July and is now getting recruited by Pitt, Oklahoma, Missouri, Auburn, Arizona, Marquette, Oregon and New Mexico, among others. High School: Prepped at Sabino High School in Tucson, Ariz. … Signed with UTEP during the November signing period his senior year at Sabino High School … Also played for the Tucson Heat Travel Organization on the AAU travel circuit — where it all goes down in the hoop scene … Proud owner of the “Matt Mobile” … Can Facebook and Skype with the best of them … Admires his parents, Mike and Sandy Korcheck, the most … Born Oct. 12, 1991.

Re: Matt Korchek.. JUCO PF/C..

I love JUCO's, but after having so many fail, or under-perform in the last 5 years or so, I'm gun shy. It's hard to know what is what with them. Especially big men. I think it's a bit easier to evaluate the guards, but JUCO bigs just don't seem to transition well.

They need a 4th big man that isnt named Casey Arent. The rotation would be Osby/Mbaye/Fitz/Korcheck.

Apaches recognized in conference, region

DOUGLAS — Cochise College men’s and women’s basketball players were named to this year’s all-conference and all-region basketball teams, announced this weekend.

Sophomores Nathan Sobey and Michael Maya were listed as part of the First Team All-Conference and First Team Division I All-Region, while Cochise sophomore Matt Korcheck made Second Team All-Conference and Second Team Division I All-Region.

Then we better make sure this kid really is better than Arent. I don't know, either way. We need somebody comparable to Washington. He was in line with what we've had at that 4th post spot (depth-wise) in prior years.

Re: Matt Korchek.. JUCO PF/C..

not that you really care, but Baylor was recruiting him hard before they decided to redshirt Bobo Morgan and landed a commit from Ricardo Gathers. They think highly of him. I don't think you are getting a stiff here if you land him, this guy moves really well.

I had talked to BigTime about him in the Fall and knew that OU was recruiting him as well.

Re: Matt Korchek.. JUCO PF/C..

The question is, can he beat this guy in a game of 1-on-1?

I'm with you. However, I'm trying to have faith in Kruger and his talent evaluation. I'm hoping that Arent's recruitment was due largely to us being in desperate need of another body to fill the roster and since Kruger obviously had little time to recruit that's the best he could do.

Korcheck seems to be drawing high major interest. It appears to be a different situation than guys like Arent, Thompson and even Washington, who all had very little (if any) high major interest other than OU.

As you have summarized well, we only need him to come in and play the part of the 4th post, not to play 25 minutes a game.

Re: Matt Korchek.. JUCO PF/C..

Well, Dave Telep's intern says "dude's for real". So there's that.

@DrewCannon1: Dude's for real. @RT ebosshoops Oklahoma will host juco center Matt Korcheck from Cochise CC in Arizona on an official visit this weekend.

Re: Matt Korchek.. JUCO PF/C..

Sounds like we offered this guy awhile ago. That is interesting. I can't help but think LK MIGHT HAVE been thinking about running somebody off back then. I guess that is still an option with the offers and interest we have out there.

Interesting last question:

NBE: What is the time frame for your decision and what factors will be most important in your decision?

MK: I will be signing late, this way I can really take the time I need to get to know the schools and build realtionships. I was very interested in redshirting my first year to really build up my body and be more succsessfull for two years after that, so a school that would offer that is huge.

Has an offer from Pitt....that means something to me.

hold out for this guy:
