I went over to their rivals board and it seems Buzz is also their number 1 choice but they are saying its a pipe dream because his buyout is just too much to overcome. So my question is why are we so sure that hes going to be our next coach especially with the shape our program is in right now and with the NCAA sanctions hanging over our head?

Is our fanbase just too delusional to think otherwise?

Buzz isn't even on the radar for most Mizzou fans.

Here is why he's on our radar and maybe not Mizzou's even with the buyout. As you will see from the link, our profit was 27 million more than Mizzou's.

OU certainly has the ability to do it...with some of the names and boosters the University sports not to mention football money...I just won't be totally convinced Joe will do it until he actually signs that check.

If/when he does I will be happy. IMO basketball deserves it.

You do know what we were paying Capel this year, right?

I read somewhere earlier today, maybe it was on Rivals, that Buzz's buyout is not 3.8 million.

In fact, I think it said he didn't have a buyout, which would be even better if so.

That's football only. The link within that article contains the overall athletic profits. OU still has an edge, but it's closer to 8 than 27 (and all Big 12 schools are about to come into a lot more money with new TV deals).

But OU (and Texas) get more...plus their own network hitting the air late this year...

yeah, I know.

But that's still a far cry from Joe having to wrote a few checks totaling close to $8 million or 6 and committing to the other two.

I am not saying he won't. In fact, I will be overjoyed if he does show that type of commitment to basketball. I am just saying I will believe it when I see it.

Right now I think he has Shaka on his mind vice writing those checks.

Isn't it pretty costly to launch your own network?

OU may get more out of the deal, but point is Mizzou obviously has plenty of money to make it happen if they really want to make it happen. It's not a money issue with Buzz.

Oh, I know. OU wouldn't be starting the network if there weren't a truck-load of cash waiting at the end. This is NOT about exposure as most of their revenue sports are overexposed as it is. It's all about cash.

And with the new agreement made between OU/Texas and the rest of the Big XII, they will get a bigger piece of the pie.

not gonna matter anyway to us...Joe C. is after Shaka Smart now. you watch.

That'd be a disaster. Doubt the guy can even recruit Texas aka Jeff Capel, he's probably all east coast.

He could easily go down and recruit Texas. Shaka's as smooth as a Dewey Tucker rift.

Not sure where you get these figures.

First, Capel may not get his buyout if the NCAA brings the hammer, but common belief is nothing will happen to us, so that's 2 million to Capel.

Buzz's buyout is not 3.8 million. Murdock reported yesterday that this number is way off. Also, I heard Mike Alden, the AD at Mizzou, on the radio this morning discussing "buyouts". He explained the buyout clause and said most coaches contracts only have a buyout equal to 2-3 years of the base salary. In Anderson's case, the base salary the school pays each year is $275K, and the contract states 2 years for a buyout, so Arkansas owes $550K.

I would doubt the Buzz's contract with Marquette would have a higher base salary because most coaches contracts include money from Nike, personal appearances, golf memberships, cars, and private money. I would bet Buzz's buyout is less than $500K.

However, for the sake of argument, let's say it's 1 million which given the above info that is really generous. So, that's 3 million we are out of pocket to hire Buzz Williams and fire Capel.

Nowhere close to 6 or 8 million.

The 3.8 million buyout is now of urban legend. There would be no speculation on Buzz for any job with that type of buyout. His hire will be all about geography and Mizzou is not part of that map.
