My Favorite OU related Message Board....

OUhoops has been my favorite OU board since the A-Bomb went off over at OUI. So here we are 3+ weeks from the first football game of the season and I still can't find a football board that I enjoy as much as this basketball board. With that said, are we still planning on creating a football board over here? If not, why?

Not having a football board is probably what makes this board so good...and unique. Keep in mind that there are many OU football fans who have nothing more than a passing interest in basketball. That means in January and February, they sometimes drift to the basketball boards. This coming January, we would be getting questions like: "What happened to Cade Davis? I thought he was still on the team." or "Has Lon Kruger been coaching long? Where was he before Vegas?"

The only reason to have a football board is if the owners of this site decided to turn this into a business...then they would need football. Otherwise, I'm guessing things will stay as they are.

I think the best solution is to have an off topic board and allow it to have football threads there along with anything else. There really isn't a football board as good as OUI was at it's best.

LandThieves is pretty decent. I actually think the Rivals paid board is pretty good too, but it's really focused on recruiting. With closed practices and the such, it's hard to find any good day-to-day practice info. They do have some good HD video interviews.

I've had a lot of requests for this and I've thought about doing an "Other OU Sports Board" where football could be discussed as well as baseball etc. Thoughts?

I've considered adding an off-topic board as well, but I'm not sure I can keep up with the moderating aspect of it. Or would even want to if I could.

Agreed. Those two places are pretty much the only spots (other than here) that I surf any more for info. SoonerScoop has really stepped their game up in an impressive way over the last couple of years.

Yeah, that could be a slippery-slope. It could maybe work; don't think there are too many political blowhards that contribute on here.

To echo others that posted on this thread, I would love for an "Off-Topic" board, where football and non-sports aspects could be brought in. JMO.

I just checked out landthieves. Is there no moderating there at all? The first thread I clicked on on the football board made a laughing stock of the rules I was presented with when creating my account. Profane language, copulating animated GIFs, homophobic "humor."

Is there an OU football board where intelligent, reasonably articulate adults post?

I agree that adding a football board to this site would neutralize (maybe even neuter) what has been one heck of a basketball board since its inception nearly four years ago. That said, however, if the football board is maintained as a separate site, I think it has a great chance to succeed. IMO, the lack of quality competition of late, has opened the door to a well-run football board that was all but closed a couple of years ago. I also know that if OUHoops decides to take that leap, the football board he starts will be as good as it gets.

My reaction to the idea of adding an off-topics board to this site will not surprise OUHoops. :facepalm

This is so true. That site has good info, but the form it comes in is ridiculous. It is like talking to a middle schooler with inside info.

EDIT: Also, adding a football board would clearly ruin this site. Look at the basketball boards on every other OU fan forum and tell me which one you like. If you answered none, then you can see why a lot of us don't want a football board here.

I agree... I think this site could run a well-organized football board. Plus, the idiocy that people get tired of are mostly posting at Landthieves... Hard to foresee most of them transferring over here.

Plus, if this "football board" does get too problematic, couldn't it just be dropped? It wouldn't have to stay around here if it wasn't working out I don't think.
