As far as his lineups and substitution patterns, Kruger was just getting everyone enough minutes that he will have plenty of tape to watch, and see how different combinations worked. Makes sense to me.
Game showed where we need to work, e.g. judgment with the ball, rebounding and free throw shooting.
As the kids become more seasoned and our rotations are set, I think that our judgment and free throw shooting will improve. Rebounding is a coaching thing, and Kruger talked about the need to improve in this area after the game. It will be incremental, but I think by January, we are a competent rebounding team.
Was impressed with all the newcomers and though all of the returning players had improved some. To a certain degree, players are who they are and improvement usually is just to a degree. But, all in all and barring something we can't foresee (such as injury), we are a substantially improved team, or at least will be by tournament time.
Just a guess, but I think that Mbuye and Osby will be our frontcourt starters. As a pair, they are better than last year's osby and fitz. Fitz and Neal are better backups than CJ last year.
I just don't know about the frontcourt yet. I need to see more. I love the freshman, but don't know if Lon can keep grooms out of the lineup. It will be interesting to see. it will be very difficult to sit Buddy. You can make a case for Cam, but I won't be suprised if Lon brings him off the bench. He seems improved to me, but the freshman may be better. In any event, we are light years deeper and more talented than last year in the backcourt.
I just don't have a feel for what our record might be. We are more talented and deeper, but you can only play 5 and our schedule might be tougher. And, then there is the maturation of the freshman that needs to occur.
Bottom line, we are a better team and lon has this thing moving in the right direction no matter what our record is this year.
