C'mon, BCS. One is a 9-time All-Star and 1st ballot Hall-of-Famer who has been on the All-NBA 1st, 2nd and 3rd team more times than not in his career. The other is a great defensive player, but only a 2-time All-Star. I'm not about to compare a 9-time All-Star to a 2-time All-Star in any sport. Plus, the two are different types of players. Holiday should be compared to someone like Mike Conley Jr. Holiday is better than Conley, but they're more similar than Holiday vs Dame.

Yeah defense doesn’t get you on all star teams. I’m taking Holiday on my team over Dame.

Ok what contending team would Lillard be better for over Holiday?

I’ve never said Lillard isn’t going to be viewed as the better player. I’m saying if I have a good/great team Holiday will improve the team more than Lillard.

It is completely dependent on a team’s roster. A team that needs a scorer, someone who absolutely stresses the defense and can take over games, would improve much more with Dame than Jrue. A team needing a defensive minded player who is a fourth or fifth option would improve more with Jrue. But the reason this entire debate started was Coach making the ridiculous claim that Dame isn’t a winner. And all I’m saying is, in a team sport, that is a crazy thing to say. And I would bet that if you asked 30 GMs who they would rather build a franchise around (again, talking about when they were in their primes), they’d unanimously say Dame. It’s easier to find good defenders who are role players offensively than it is to find elite, top 10-15 players.

That’s never been my argument. The entire time I’ve said Holiday makes a bigger impact on good/great teams than Dame would. Dame is better for average to below average teams. Milwaukee Bucks were a really good team that got worse with Dame. The Celtics were a really good team that got better with Holiday.

The Bucks were trending down before he got there. There is a reason they were looking to shake things up, and why they fired their coach.

He was hurt almost the whole year in Holiday’s last season and they still got the #1 seed.

Middleton played most of the year Lillard’s 1st season and the got the #3 seed. Last year, yes, Middleton was hurt most of the season.

The Bucks did not get out of the 1st round either year with Lillard. The team got worse than when they had Holiday.

Bucks and Celtics were better with Jrue. But for the first 10 years of his career, he was playing on irrelevant teams while Dame was carrying Portland to relevance. It's all about the role they are filling. Jrue can't carry a tram, but probably should have won Finals MVP for how he locked down Kyrie.

Again my point is Holiday makes good/great teams better because of his skill set. Good/great teams don’t need to be carried so Dame’s skill set is less needed. If your team is middle of the pack or worse then Dame is better for that team. If you’re top 8 looking to win a ship then Jrue is better.
