NBA- OU players and general (this thread only)

Tough year for NBA Sooners. Reaves was playing at an All-Star level, but is now injured. Young has been injured for a good part of the season and is on the trading block. Buddy is riding the bench for the first time in his career. I will say that Fears is playing better than I would have expected this early into his rookie season. I can only hope the second half of the season goes better.

Sounds more and more like TY won’t be with the Hawks much longer. They have been much better without him this season. He needs to find a way to get his game back on track, whether it’s with Atlanta or somewhere else.
I was watching their game last night, and the announcers were discussing how much better Atlanta's perimeter defense is without TY on the court. They have several long, athletic defenders who can guard the 1-3 positions. Of course, TY's offense is better than all of them, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Hawks move on from him.

And unfortunately, his offense has regressed, too. I read an article yesterday by a really good NBA author in which he listed TY as one of his five most disappointing players in the league so far this season. He’s young enough that he could still turn things around and I hope he does, but he needs to do so quickly before his stock falls even further.

Since the Hawks did not sign Trae to an extension during the offseason, we knew this was coming. Part of being a great player is making those around you better. Even though Trae led the NBA in assists last year (the one part of his game that got better through the years), it just never translated to wins. I guess being a minus defender was part of the reason, but let's all hope a change of scenery will reignite his NBA career.

When it comes to defense, what I find a bit ironic is that Billy Tubbs produced three of the six NBA Sooners more noted for their defense than their offense - Mookie Blaylock, Anthony Bowie and Harvey Grant. Tubbs actually produced four such players if you count TCU's Kurt Thomas. The other three (for the record) are Clifford Ray, Gar Heard and Eduardo Najera. We definitely don't have any current NBA Sooners who will remind us defensively of any of those guys.

I just hope he lands with a decent team, but I’m not sure how likely that is. It’ll be sad if he ends up being a guy who just puts up big numbers on bad teams for most of his career. Atlanta had the one good playoff run a few years ago but they have never really been a contender.

They are saying a package with Washington might be happening. CJ McCollum would be sent to Atlanta on an expiring contract. Getting sent to Washington is the beginning of the end if it's true.

I couldn't agree more about how demoralizing that would be. His typical stat line would be 28 points on 8-19 from the field and 2-7 from the 3-pt line, 11 assists and his team losing 129-112. Does that sound about right?

Exactly what I was thinking. They have some decent young pieces, but they are Washington, right?? They will certainly figure out a way to ruin those guys.

No contending team wants him though. He gets stats but doesn’t contribute to winning.
