Need an experienced big

Tell me who. I would love this but who will it be. I doubt it will be any of the FR and we will need guards the year after. I don't want Spangler at the 5. I think his development tracks along Roe's and he becomes a 4. I see no way we find anyone good enough to move him to the bench.

The thing is, it suits us better having an athletic combo power forward. Not a Spangler type. So he would have to go to the bench and be the sixth man with hornbeak.

Find a 7 footer and plug him at center
Buford at PF
Our 3 Gaurds

Bench would have hornbeak and Spangler leading it

With contributions from booker and Lattin

Is that not a top 10 team?

Yes if the 7 footer can compete at a Big 12 level and Spangler is the starter at the 4.

Ifs and buts... We aren't after bigs as far as I can tell. A 5th yr transfer would be awesome but unlikely. I like who we have and who's coming. I think we're top 15 next season with who we have/will have.

The same issues will be here next year tho.

This needs to be fixed before hield, cousins, hornbeak and Spangler graduate.

What about longar's cousin, manyang I think, I really loved his video and looks like he has tremendous upside. Also why is everyone disregarding Lattin? I would think he would start or play more against big teams and Buford play more against smaller teams. I have full confidence that Spangler is skilled enough to develop into a face up 4, and unless we sign a top 10 recruit can't see him on the bench.

Who will be the #4 next season? Is that what you are asking? Let's make this a quiz. Who threw the ball in this past season after a made basket? Hint. They both graduated. Kruger wants a guy with size ( in case they are being guarded) that can handle the ball well enough to get up the floor even though they are defended. Who do we have that is returning that can do that? Hint. Nobody. Who do we have coming in that is doing that now and can do it for us next season? Hint. Buford.

The question is how long can Spangler hold off Lattin and will Spangler's game expand to the point he can compete with a jump out the gym talent like Buford.

I'm a big Spangler fan. He is the toughness, hustle, and glue guy that every good team needs.

Spangler can handle the ball well enough with work in the offseason to be that guy. Saw him break Douglass' press single handedly in the state championship and they had 4 D1 recruits.

I'm not sure I've ever agreed with gary on anything, as much as I agree with him on this.

I think we'd all like to have a post player that is talented enough to send Spangler to the bench. And maybe Lattin becomes that guy. But I'm not big on having Spangler at the 4 unless his game develops BIG TIME. Also not sure why the angst over not having a 7 footer. Most teams don't. Most of the good past OU teams didn't. Lattin is what, 6'9? A LONG 6'9, which will probably play like Jabahri Brown. Is that not long enough for our 5?

OU doesn't play Douglas. They tried Spangler in that role the 1st of the season. Didn't work out.

That's what I'm saying. A big that sends Spangler to the bench really improves us everywhere, defensively, and bench. Buford at the 4 with a great 6'9 or above center that rebounds, plays post defense, and protects the rim.

All 7 foot centers are better options at center than Spangler. And I think it would hurt us offensively if we paired him with the big at power forward. So just move Buford there whose already taller and athletic. He's also better offensively. And move Spangler to the bench and strengthen it. We're a top 10 team in this scenario

No they aren't. Oleg Restov was over 7' and he never led the Big XII in rebounding.

Spangler isn't going to the bench. That is Crazy talk. I don't care who we bringing in, unless its Myles turner and Julius randle (and I know he plays for Kentucky) or Wiggins or Kevin Garnett.
Lattin and Buford aren't moving him to the bench. Sorry.

But I agree with Gary, Lon isn't going to be undersized. Ive been saying all thread, its hard to go get a 7ft guy that can play. or a 6'10... they aren't easy to find.

Why do you think The thunder locked up serge and not Hardin... Bigs are harder to find than guards!

Spangler also didn't get an entire offseason to prepare for that exact role. I agree if Buford and Lattin are both as good as Spangler than those two give us our best lineup. I just have a hard time believing that they will next season unless it's at the end of the season.
