Need an experienced big

Spangler isn't going to the bench. That is Crazy talk. I don't care who we bringing in, unless its Myles turner and Julius randle (and I know he plays for Kentucky) or Wiggins or Kevin Garnett.
Lattin and Buford aren't moving him to the bench. Sorry.

But I agree with Gary, Lon isn't going to be undersized. Ive been saying all thread, its hard to go get a 7ft guy that can play. or a 6'10... they aren't easy to find.

Why do you think The thunder locked up serge and not Hardin... Bigs are harder to find than guards!

Then we have to change our system again. Spangler has to go to the bench for us to gain size and keep the same system. Gotta decide

Why can't we change our system? We did it this year. The best coaches adapt to their players and Kruger does that very very well.

Very true. But which system will win us games? I personally like the up and down one with Buford at 4, our great improving guards and a long center with Spangler, hornbeak, booker off the bench.

Also not sure why the angst over not having a 7 footer. Most teams don't. Most of the good past OU teams didn't. Lattin is what, 6'9? A LONG 6'9, which will probably play like Jabahri Brown. Is that not long enough for our 5?

When has OU ever had a 7 footer that played? I honestly cannot think of anyone going all the way back to the Tubbs era. Oleg is the only 7' I recall ever being on the team and he never played.

I don't recall OSU having them either. OSU had more project 7' that never played than OU but unless Big Country was a true 7' I don't think OSU has had one in 20+ years either.

Spangler also didn't get an entire offseason to prepare for that exact role. I agree if Buford and Lattin are both as good as Spangler than those two give us our best lineup. I just have a hard time believing that they will next season unless it's at the end of the season.

I don't want to be cast as a guy knocking Spangler. I'm a big fan. I'm just saying if OU is going to move up in the pecking order, Spangler's contribution needs to expand or Kruger needs someone else that can do more. If next season is just a case of Buford replacing Cam, a not much different result should be expected.

Spangler has done everything ask of him. I'm not predicting that he won't be able to expand his game.

I love the up and down system, I don't love 35 threes being shot a game.

Oh he definitely needs to expand his game to be a 4, no question about that. I'm just more concerned about his face up shot, passing from the high post, and taking bigs off the bounce from the top of the key than I am him inbounding the ball.

Agreed. I believe the chances are better that Spangler expands his game (which I believe is the coaches plan) than he ever comes of the bench.

Not talking about the NDSU game, I'm talking about all season. Teams who live and die by the 3 tend to be inconsistent and lose to teams they shouldn't and beat teams they shouldn't. I enjoyed this season very much, I had a great time watching these guys play. I would just like to have some balance.

So you think our coaches are sitting on a beach drinking fruity drinks? They KNOW Spangler needs help!

Naw I don't think that. I just don't want to bank on Lattin and McNeace being ready from day 1. I would like to think OU could get a serviceable big who can rebound and defend the post. I'm talking a Gilbert or Haywood caliber guy.

You've got a lot to learn. OU in hoops isn't OU in football.

Just bc "we are..." Only works for a handful of teams

You are selling our program short. A 5th year guy from Louisana Monroe would love to come have a chance to win...

Well, it is a story I can tell. I can not ask any of the coaching staff a direct question like who will be the starters next season. I doubt that they would appreciate it and they wouldn't tell me.

But, sometimes I can ask an indirect question and get the answer that I'm looking for. I'm talking to one of the assistant coaches the other day. I asked, since we are losing both Cam and Tyler, who do we have that can bring the ball in after a made basket and help get it up the court.

Without hesitation, he said, "Buford, he is doing that now." Since they don't have enough time outs to get Buford out after every made basket, I made the assumption he will be in the game.

Gentlemen, in case you guys don't realize it but our undersized Spangler led the Conf. In rebounding and led most of the year in double-doubles. I believe we have some 7 footers in the Conf. I agree with CoachTalk, I have seen Spangler play in HS alot and followed his career at Gonzaga and remember reading an article about Robert Sacre(for you that don't know him, he is a 7 footer that played at Gonzaga and now with the Lakers)he made a statement that Ryan was the most physical player he ever played against. I want spend anymore time on this thread because it makes no sense, but will finish by saying-OULegacy, you can go on talk about something else because Spangler will not be on the bench, so quit wasting your time writing about it.

And when Buford is not in the game? Who is going to play the 4? It's either gonna be Spangler, a transfer, or we go really small which won't happen. I agree when Buford is in he's our 4, but I believe Spangler will be the 4 when he is out. I just don't see us starting both Buford and Lattin.

OU still has two scholarships available (I think) so they might sign another player.
