Need an experienced big

Gentlemen, in case you guys don't realize it but our undersized Spangler led the Conf. In rebounding and led most of the year in double-doubles.

A little misleading. There was nobody else on the team to compete with Spangler for rebounds. The 4 playing next to him was either Clark or Neal, all season.

Also, we played a pretty fast pace. Fastest, or 2nd fastest in the Big 12 this year. That means there were more rebounds for Spangler to potentially grab, on average.

Stats don't always tell the entire story. Spangler might have led the Big 12 in rebounds, but he wasn't the Big 12's best rebounder.

Agree a hundred percent. He also was a liability on defense against bigger centers. He had great effort but he just isn't a starting caliber CENTER in the big 12. As I said before. We either change our system and move him to power forward. Or we move him to the bench, strengthening it.

I'm not selling us short. I'm with reality. We can't walk in and say WE ARE OU. Tum Cunningham, Allen? Davis?
It's harder than you think.

I agree we are back to respectable and on the way up,

We will agree to disagree, and I see just about everyone on here including you using stats, so don't post them if they don't tell the story, oh I get it, stats are only reliable when you post. Thank godness our program is not in your hands

I've said a thousand times that I hate "counting" rebounding stats. It's like RBI's in baseball. Or runs. There are better stats. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand what I explained above. Just sayin'.

We will agree to disagree, and I guess only stats that means anything is when you post. I think I will just stay with what Coach Kruger thinks, but continue on with expert BB knowledge because some people on the board will buy into it, but not me.

So Coach Kruger thinks Ryan Spangler is the best rebounder in the league?

lol

Okay.

Do you know for sure that he doesn't, if not then you are just guessing again as usual, but if you do, Please share with the rest of us what you know.

If we can get a center much like Bennett was, only a little better, a big that can basically protect the rim, and have Spangler as the PF we will be better off. I don't know if that guy is Bennett or if we have a better option next year. But we already have an experienced big at this point with Spangler.

I don't know what Kruger thinks but many of the analysts that televised the games said as much. Not sure if that means anything but Ryan was usually the leading rebounder for either team this year.

This.

The guy had more rebounds than any other big12 player as a sophomore...Spangs is not getting replaced unless a Blake or Tisdale walks through that door..

The more I think about it, I would prefer Kruger save the scholarship unless he can grab a one year graduate transfer who can flat out play, guard or forward.

How about a 6'6" 3/4 with projected NBA talent and 3 yrs. eligibility?

It's the University of Oklahoma. We would have a shot.

LOL!

Until OU draws more than 3,475 butts in the seats for the opening home game of the season, then the quote above is just silly. Big Time BASKETBALL programs play in front of Big Time BASKETBALL home crowds.

(Yes, OU drew 3,475 for the first regular season home game on November 11, 2013 vs. Noth Texas.)

OU has been a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament in the past; however, name one (1) seven-foot player in the history of OU basketball. Oleg Reztsov was 7'2" and was never good enough to play.

OK, now name a GOOD seven-foot player in the history of OU basketball.

While not highly recruited out of high school, Stacey King DEVELOPED into the best scoring "true center" in OU history. As a 6-10 freshman, he struggled mightily and averaged 6 points and less than 4 rebounds. He then averaged 7 points as a sophomore, which was the 7th best scoring average on the team. Stacey then turned into a stud as a junior and senior (when the program listed him as 6'11").

Stacey King was an Oklahoma kid that was NOT highly recruited. It would be wonderful if one of the incoming 6'9" guys from Texas DEVELOPS into the next Stacey King in a few years.

Who wouldn't want a 7 footer?

Double ditto to you and Booger.

Ejim is a better rebounder than Spangler...and I really like Ryan. He grabbed a ton of caroms early in conference, but over the last dozen games he only hit double figure rebounds twice.

From the few college coaches I talk to, most don't use a rebound/gm statistic anymore to evaluate because it's misleading. Where technology and time is available, most us efficiency numbers to compare players.

If he is elite, take him.

If he is a Ryan wright type (a high school talent who hasn't proven much in d1 yet), I would prefer to see who we can pull in from the high school ranks.

P.s. Do you know something I don't?
