New to the Board, re: thebigabd

I'm not around here too much. I glance around at a few threads from time to time, especially after a game. But I've got a question.

And here it is: why does everybody dogpile on abd? I've been on boards with the guy for a long time (dating back to that hideous Insider board) and I've always known him to be a very knowledgeable Sooner BBall poster. The last few times around here I've noticed people dismissing his opinions and I even noticed a few times people suggesting he take himself to the Colorado boards.

What the heck happened? What caused people to turn on him? Like I said, I've been posting alongside him for at least five years and found him to be nothing but knowledgeable. There are very few who follow OU BBall as closely and root for OU BBall as passionately as he does.

So.....what gives?

I am not saying that this characterization is fair, but it is how it has appeared of late. I enjoy much of ABD's posts and his knowledge of other teams, but he seems to have lost his objectivity. It certainly seems that he has an agenda against the current coaching staff.

Bingo... If any other school but OU got the Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year, a Juco All American, a top 100 recruit, and a top 30 recruit they would be a top 6-8 team in the league according to abd. OU does it and we are the worst team in the conference according to him. And that doesn't include a D-1 transfer and a prep school stud. You have all that plus 2 top 100 recruits from last year, and a runner up to the Oklahoma Gatorade player of the year (Cade was runner up to Blake) and this team has some talent

I've retired. I realized last year that I really didn't know dick about the game of basketball because everything I thought would happen essentially went the opposite way. I kept preaching one line and the other side kept coming around and slapping me in the face. I was embarrassed, frankly.

So, I just watch.

I think last year did that to a lot of us (myself included). While I respect your retirement wishes, I hope that you will reconsider when then you get the urge to share some thoughts. Your recaps are top notch on the innernets imo.

BTW - my own little brother had a good suggestion for one of your OU look-a-like threads. He noticed it from Day One, and I have to say I agree with him.

Even when I disagree with abd I always find he has reasonable justifications for whatever he is saying. He is certainly not the negative Nancy people on jere make him out to be. IMO he is one of out most consistently reasonable members.

This is what I was trying to say. It's not like he throws random crap against the wall, sees what sticks, and then leaves the building. He's not like Ghost of Bud (anybody remember him?)

He thinks the situation is dire, and I'm not sure he's all that far from being right. Two years ago we played North Carolina for the right to go to the Final Four. This year we're taken to OT at home by North Carolina Central. What in the world happened?

There's a place for sunshine and there's a time for gloom. The ride will be fun, or else we'll be doomed. I think that was Tolstoy. Or maybe it was Trotsky. Hell, I don't know.

Two years ago we played North Carolina for the right to go to the Final Four. This year we're taken to OT at home by North Carolina Central.

I think that sums up OU's situation pretty well, and any OU fan with concerns at this point is entirely justified. He may end up being wrong, but it doesn't make him less of a fan to doubt your staff at this point IMO.

Thank you for the kind words. I just post what I see. Sometimes its good, sometimes its bad. Lately its been bad, but take a close (or not so close) look and its not hard to see how one came to that conclusion.

I always back up what I am saying with stats, facts, quotes, or some kind of direct observation. You would think that would be good enough. The funny ones are people thinking I have an agenda (what kind of agendas can internet sports posters have? haha) or that I am a fan of another school disguised as an OU fan (who does that?).

What annoys me about some of ABD's posts is it seems like every time I come on here he has started a new thread which obviously has a certain point but for some reason he feels the need to "hide" what he is actually trying to say. For example, one of his many "compare OU's starting 5 to the 10th place team in the league's starting 5" threads. The message he is obviously trying to send is that OU's starting 5 is worse than the 10th place team in the league. So why doesn't he save himself the time and effort and just post "this team sucks and has no talent"? Then we can sticky it to the top and he won't have to continue to come up with creative ways to say we suck without actually saying it.

Ah, now there's a name from the past! As I've had more time to consider GOB's way of stirring the pot, and the fact that he disappeared right after Kelvin left town, I happen to believe he was a plant. If so, he did his job well. He kept me riled up, that's for sure...defending KS I might add.

You're right about thebigabd, Sooner04. I don't always agree with what he has to say, but he is as knowledgeable as any poster here about basketball, particularly Big 12 conference hoops.

I know bigabd as well as anyone. We go way back on fan boards; late 2001 to be exact. Personally, I think he just likes to argue. lol But anyway you cut it, he has been an asset to every fan board I've been on, because he's as good as anyone I have ever known at starting new threads and keeping conversations alive and interesting. I understand why he rubs a few posters the wrong way. But I still like the guy, and agree that he gets a bum rap sometimes.

On another topic, we miss your game reports, 04. I hope you will consider breathing life into them again as the season progresses. I've said it before and I'll say it again. You're one of the best writers around!
