North Texas TV/ GAME THREAD

Manek, junior 3 year starter
Doolittler, senior 3 year starter
Bieniemy, sophomore 2 year starter
Reaves, junior 3 year starter

Yes we have some inexperienced guys but come on, this is just a lame excuse

Reaves first year at OU. Bienemy spent about half of last year as a backup before finally taking over at PG and has had a bit of a sophomore slump. The rest of the roster is Harmon who is a freshman, Alondes Williams is a first year JUCO, Victor Iwuakor is a freshman, Jalen Hill is a freshman, Kuath is essentially in his first season of actual playing time. So basically you have 3 or 4 guys with any major college experience and the rest of the roster with almost none. That's pretty inexperienced all around.

Even if all of our guys were experienced D1 players (they're not), it can take time for guys who haven't played together to fully mesh as a team.

But but but... what about all those other teams! I am only commenting on our team's lack of focus and effort. What Kentucky and Auburn do is of little concern to me.

The only game I think the team was lacking effort was Stanford, and that was just one of those Twilight Zone games that are hard to explain.

Dismissing the struggles of other quality programs basically says you expect OU to avoid the struggles that virtually every team faces at this point in the season. That's a nice dream, but you're likely to be disappointed, year in and year out and not just with Coach Kruger at the helm.

Again I'll suggest you go back and look at the early-season scores for virtually any Sooner squad of the past 20 years; you'll find scores that undoubtedly inspired fans to gnash their teeth, rend their garments , pull out their hair and bemoan the team's lack of focus and effort.

I'd like to see us not relying so heavily on three-point shots early in games. We generally haven't come out shooting well, and by relying on the three (and missing them) we too often find ourselves in a hole.

A lot of good stuff here. I remember the Hawaii and LSU games being a lot closer than they should have been the final four year. And we do need to focus on getting in the lane early on games. Once you see the ball go in a few times the rim gets bigger and then more out to the 3 point line. Need to start building confidence early o. Games.

I'm not trying to be overly negative. I love my alma mater and the basketball team as much or more than anyone else. I just have concerns this year because of what I've seen on the court and I'm being as objective as I can. I hope they right the ship.

Def agree I’d rather see us try to work inside out vs outside in..
Just because you’re working with higher percentage shots to begin with...establishing an inside game thus opening up some outside shots/drives.

Saw lots of standing around on the perimeter last night by everyone but the ball handler. That allows defense to tighten up...

Next couple of games will be tough.

Last year with probably a bit of a worse roster talent wise they went to the tournament and gave the eventual National Champs a respectable game.

I'm aware, and that's why this stretch of games has been rather alarming.

A lot of new guys that are trying to establish roles & consistency. I’m actually happily surprised about OU’s record with all the turnover and with a freshman pg.

I did a study of OU Big 12 home and away records one year. The point differential was 14 points in favor of the home team. Several reasons for that.

Maybe the biggest is familiarity with the court, the background, lighting, etc. While at OU I often went back to my high school and worked out with the team. I was amazed at how aware I still was of the court and gym.

No matter what people want to believe, some officials are intimidated by home crowds. It is part of our human nature to want to please others and also of our fear of criticism. As a high school coach in the Okla City area we got officials lists from fellow coaches and the opportunity to reject certain officials. I noticed that a respected coach marked off an official I thought was good so I asked him about it. He said the official had "rabbit ears". In other words he caved to hostile crowds. The very next time the official called a game on the road for our team he clearly made a bad late call that cost us the game.

The Mean Green game was the first game I have seen OU play this year that I thought there were several bad calls in favor of the opponent. You know. The first real road game.

The travel probably is also a factor.

A mitigating factor in my study is that the home team is usually ahead late in the game leading to the rash of late fouls by the trailing team.

our offense isn't good enough to make up for our crap defense.

It's a GAME. The purpose of which is to entertain and have fun. It's hard to be entertained when you're too busy complaining and griping. You need to relax.

(This is fun!)

You can engage in the very same behavior as others, but the difference is you will be called out while they are to be free of such criticism. Gotta love it!
