"Not a Vintage MSU Team"

One thing that Calipari, Pitino, Coach K, Izzo, etc. do an amazing job at is leveraging the media to help motivate players. There is probably some truth to this, but as a coach, you don't say it unless you're using it to pump up your team behind the scenes.

He's telling the truth. They don't have their classic point guard. They don't have the size they typically have. They're not your typical MSU team.

They're still really good.

Gottlieb was saying yesterday that they missed on point guards a couple of years back. They lost a guy they thought they had to Duke, then lost their #2 because they got in late, then lost the Morris kid (in their back yard) to Iowa State because they were too late.

I would not appreciate my coach telling the media repeatedly how i lacked talent.

I agree but maybe he's trying to bring them back down to Earth after everyone has announced how invincible they are after beating Virginia.
