Not to be negative...

Cam has all the physical tools to play in the NBA as a 2 or even as a 1. He's a mile away on the development. My guess is that he is capable of being a 2nd round pick and sent off to develop or he will be touring Europe. If he dedicates himself then there is a chance he can greatly improve his chances on sticking with an NBA team.

You cannot deny physically he is exactly what NBA teams look for and want in a 2.

He does not have the tools to play the one in the NBA. That is crazy. Is there even one pg in the NBA right now that compars, size-wise?

And you are right, the kid is light years behind in actual basketball skills. I've been saying that since he committed to us, that he'd be a work in progress b/c he has gotten by on athletic ability for so long. I'm not nearly as high on Cam as a lot of folks are.

WT, here is the deal on Cam. Comparing him to your favorite player Pledger. Pledger and a couple of others have a really nice shooting stroke. It is technically correct and repeatable. Kind of like a good golf swing. And that is one of the reasons Pledger shoots well.

Clark is not so blessed. His is kind of a stiff armed wrist flick. Because of that, I doubt that he will ever be a consistant scorer. He is a very good college defender and is good in transition. But, off and on shooting will probably limit his potential to play in the NBA.

That is something we agree on. Though when you say "not so blessed", I don't think it's physical limitations, simply that he hasn't developed a good shot, and at this point, it's awfully late to try to learn one.

Cam's shot looks really jerky and not smooth at all. He doesn't look like someone who can shot the ball that well. I think 3 of 18 will be who he is. I don't expect him to be a good shooter this year. He will have a few highlight dunks each game, but that's about it.

he was 50% from the field last season ... so this is NOT "who he is" ..

he is getting good looks .. he will start making them

and while his shot still is a little jerky .. it looks better than last season

Shawn Marion has an unconventional (non-Textbook) release too. He and the mavericks seem to be ok with it

Marion at his best was probably one of the 3 or 4 most athletic players in the game. Nobody is going to claim that for Cam Clark as athletic as he is. If he was he would already be in the NBA and the college game would look like childs play to him.

Im just commenting on his release and shawn marion hits 33% of his threes in the NBA and 81% of his free throws. An Unconventional shot can work as long as it works for the palyer. Thats the only point I was trying to make

If you mean size and athleticism, you'd be right. But Cam is a long way from being a two, even at the college level. NBA two guards can shoot as well as score, plus they have to be able to defend at that position. Cam is not there yet in any of those areas, and I'm not sure he will ever be for the reasons already mentioned.

2 years out of high school Shawn Marion was starting his 2nd season in junior college. The next year he would transfer to UNLV. The next year he was drafted by the Suns.

Marion was drafted at 6'7" 215 lbs and here was his profile at the time:

"Shawn Marion is a 6-7 athlete who runs the floor and finishes with spectacular flair. He is a great transition player that has tremendous potential on the defensive end and can run with speed and stamina.
Although he is an accomplished scorer, Marion is not a great shooter. He struggles with his range and consistency, and has some difficulty hitting the pull-up jumper. Marion is best along the baseline, where he can attack the basket and crash the offensive boards. He needs to improve upon his ballhandling and passing skills.

While he has the size to see the entire floor, Marion does not yet know the game and does not make good decisions all the time. Marion is big and strong for a small forward, and needs to add ball skills and shooting consistency to his tremendous athletic potential."

Sounds just like Cam. We'll see what happens in a couple years.

If anyone is interested, Cam had a good practice today and his shots were dropping. Osby and Pledger both looked pretty good. And Casey has come a long ways in 2 short months.

I think Casey is going to end up being a big part of our team the next couple years. I like his athleticism and hands. He's going to become a nice windex man on both ends who you can drive and dish to for the finish. The game will start slowing down for him in a couple months.

I agree. I had high hopes for him when he was signed. But, a few weeks ago I wasn't so sure. Things are looking more positive now.
