Off Topic but read this: Manti Te'o

It would be hard to beleive that he didn't know something was up. At the very least, he embellished the extent of the relationship for publicity purposes, because it is not possible for someone to be your "girlfriend" when you've never met her in person.

The other side of this is that there is so little to gain, and you have to know that the story will unravel at some point. What good does all this "extra" publicity get you. When you are a great player at ND, beleive me, you won't be hurting for publicity. Now, everybody just pretty much thinks this guy is a creepy D-bag.

But his dad talks about her coming to Hawaii to visit. Additionally someone told that story about meeting at the Stanford game. Finally, what about his claim that her brother called him to tell him she was dead and then later her sister was tweeting him.

I think the guy is nuts. It doesn't make sense.

He also raised money based on her death for charity. He better hope he didn't spend that money because people are going to look now.

He was definitely in on it and he and Notre Dame are attempting damage control.

This is from a twitter message to TIFWIW.

Te'o told she wasn't real Dec. 6. Te'o said Dec. 8: "I don't like cancer at all. I lost both my grandparents and my girlfriend to cancer."

This sounds only like something that would make a bad sitcom or comedic movie plot. Not something that really happens.

Te'oing: much better than Tebowing!

Lots of holes in his story. He had to have some awareness or he is very naive.

Even if he donated the money to charity, does raising it for a good cause excuse what he did? Seems to me that's fraud by any definition. Is that an accurate statement, or am I missing something here?

That said, I don't see any way this kid, and perhaps members of his family and close circle of friends, were not part of the hoax.

My concern going forward is since he's Mormon how many fake girlfriends does he have? :ez-laugh:

this story is extremely strange. Weitzle is acting like there is nothing tying Te'o to the fraud and if Swarbeck (ND AD) says he is clean, he must be clean).

So explain that tweet of Nicks. Show me the receipt for the white flowers he claims to have sent to the funeral. Explain how his parents were acting like he might of married a person he had never seen in person. Explain why he never corrected the Stanford game story. Explain why his dad believed he and the girl met in Hawaii? There is a lot to explain.

Finally, there is another NFL player insisting that the girl is real and he met her in person. Explain that? Is this guy a fool, a liar, what?

Either people around Te'o are in on it. Or a girl is involved to make the hoax continue. With the inconsisitencies from Te'o himself it's obvious he's in on the hoax. What he claims can be poked at easily. This is a bizarre lie. He could have made a big deal out of his grand mother alone. Losing your grandmother in your late teens-early 20s is a big deal in a person's life.

I tend to agree but why would the ND AD go out on a limb for the guy like he did?

If I were a reporter I would be looking for proof of the flower purchase that Te'o claimed he made. To me this is a major inconsistancy in the story because there was no funeral so when flowers were sent to a funeral home in Carson California for a person that was not their wouldn't they be returned?

Explain his dad's statements? Explain never recanting these stories in the South Bend Tribune, ESPN, ABC, CBS, Sports Illustrated, etc. etc. Explain his comments about the support of her family? He said stuff like that on numerous occassions so who was he talking about?

Explain this: http://aol.sportingnews.com/nfl/sto...-lennay-kekua-reagan-mauia-notre-dame-catfish

It is all so crazy.

I starting to lean that Te'o is just an idiot and not in on it. He didn't want to say he met his girlfriend online so he started making up lies to everyone. And the guy that tricked him made up the girl to become friends with Te'o

The biggest death nail to me that says he's in on it is when she died. Basically it's been reported from what he said that either the girlfriend died first or the grandmother died first.

Now he's saying it's some online hoax when he talked in lengthy interviews before about the relationship also. Both of those point to him lying about the relationship.

I am looking forward to the Te'o press conference if it ever happens. I hope the media pushes for it because I want to hear it.

If there is a PC it'll just be a statement and no questions most likely.

He was supposed to have a one-on-one interview today, but it has been cancelled.
