*****Official Fab 5 Special Thread*******

Sure. I saw them lose to better teams both years. .
'92 Duke yeah, but '93 Carolina? I think I disagree.

Plus, did any coach ever do less with more than Dean Smith? The dude signed All-Americans as often as I take dumps and he only won two titles, BOTH of which were sealed by fluke plays from the opposition (Fred Brown pass for Georgetown and the Webber timeout for Michigan).

You have always been a solid poster on the other boards but lately, you have been king of the clown posts. What's happening? Mid-life crisis? :ez-laugh:
"That's fine" is a clown post? What are the other examples of clown posts? I'll need to change my act to keep up with the times I guess. :ez-laugh:

I would here arguments for UNC's 93 team, but I liked them as a TEAM better. I agree on Dean Smith. Longevity is the main reason he is as big a legend as he is.

Loved the special last night...brought back a lot of memories...i was a sophomore in high school when they came on to the scene..

I still remember before games all of us taking turns stretching out our shorts trying to get that extra inch and wearing some of my church socks over my athletic socks so i could rock the black sock look...

I miss the days when you could at least expect guys to stay 2 yrs and even some of the best waiting 3...

I had the pleasure of hanging out with 3 of the 5 and they are every bit as close as the special portrayed...brothers no doubt...That's pretty amazing to me for college teammates, i still have friends from my college days that i keep in contact with, but the only ones that i see as brothers are my high school teammates...

That was well done, I enjoyed watching it. I was there for the '93 Final Four and won't forget that night. Watched the Michigan players walk to the locker room right in front of where I was sitting, remember seeing how dejected Webber looked and seeing that footage last night took me back in time.

I thought it was pretty good.

They pretty well glossed over the Webber getting cash from the bookie. While they were pretty seriously distressed over not getting paid to play the 200,000 plus Webber allegedly received was pretty much dismissed.

There was considerable angst over not getting paid to play. I'm not an advocate of college athletes getting paid. I understand that probably more than we realize do get paid in some fashion but I think it would be a disaster for college athletes to officially be paid.

The fab 5 had a choice. Go to college to get an education or go directly to the pros and get paid. Probably Webber and possibly Rose and Howard could have gone directly to the pros and there are other pro leagues outside the NBA.

On the other hand I am not naive enough to believe that all college athletes go to college to get an education. Many are just preparing for the pros like some we recently had.

One thing they never really hit on, but the bookie that gave a couple of them money, did he ever push kids to Michigan University?

The special never really touched on that.

They didn't REALLY have a choice. Between Darryl Dawkins KG, really no high schoolers went pro.

I was impressed with Jalen Rose and his story telling. Pretty eloquent dude.
