*** Official OU vs Arkansas game thread***

Mr. B,

I respect your opinion about Capel but I hope he isn't given another year. OU does not have the talent this year or next year to compete with ku, ksu, mizzou, baylor. Where is the future talent to be competitive? Capel is in over his head, if OU has another losing season that will be three out five.

What is is telling about your post is mentioning ksu and baylor (two pretty crappy programs) is that CBB has changed...I've been told that the deal that has been struck is run a clean program, recruit hard,...but to work for the long term success.

Jeff admitted he made a mistake with TMG...he didn't know about Tiny and thought WW would rise to the occasion. Goff, Osby, Newell, Clark, Taylor, Newell coupled with Pledge and Fitz is an NCAA level team. My "source" (again not trying to sound like a mystery, but I just talked to him over this weekend) has told me that Caple presented a plan to get OU back, and it was agreed to through the remainder of his contract.

FWIW, another guy that I went to Law School with and now works with the NCAA said the Gallon thing isn't much and OU actually looked pretty good overall. Another interesting thing that he told me is that the NCAA is starting to discuss AAU, specifically disqualifying players for NCAA that play AAU ball sponsored by shoe companies. I was shocked, but the reasoning I received was pretty compelling.

I welcome calls of bullpoop, but this is the very best info i HAVE.

I have a unique idea. Let's put a product in the floor that gives us something to support. If we can't do that, let's find a coach that can.

Those decisions should be made after seasons are over, unless a coach does something really stupid, like drunk driving, for instance. Until that time, as long as the players are giving the effort, they deserve support. Whining about Capel now is just that - whining.

Normally I agree qwerty... but this guy literally posts about me in every thread and follows me around a lot when I do post. He calls me out constantly, just like he did in this thread.

Its ridiculous...

I hear ya abd...I've just been on so many messageboards in the past where it devolves into name calling and "shut up" and so on. At the same time I hear you--prob a hair below the belt with B's post--and I know you're a solid member and wouldn't go off that much...I just hate to see that stuff start at all.

Carry on man :)

Mr B.
Nobody is saying you are full of it. We are saying, for the love of god no more Capel.

I hope you're right, not because I am a huge Capel fan but because I think that is what is best for the program in the long run.

This season will undoubtedly be a rough one, but you are right. Fans need to be fans and support the team. I'm not crazy about the way things have turned out and I think Capel is capable of better, but I don't think he should lose his job this year. I understand those who think that he should, but personally, I think it sets us back even further. I want to see Capel get to next year to see how the new guys develop and what Goff, Osby and whoever the other 'ship goes to have to offer before making a decision on Capel.

Unfortunately the board will be as miserable as it became during the " Pumpers vs " Cleti" feud at the end of the Sampson era. You have posters who will show up for every game, and they will post in the official game thread about how awful the coach is. You then will get those who want to argue with them and defend the current coach, and eventually you will see the board become a constant feud over if the coach should go or stay

The worst part about it is that Sooner fans who come here to just support the team no matter who the admin hires/fires/keeps/etc, get lost in the shuffle, or just grow tired of the pissing matches and leave. I wanted to follow the game in the game thread tonight, but avoided it because I knew that it would be similar to the OF threads during games.

Sadly, neither side will back off because you have 5-10 posters who just have to be right, and they have to interject their " expertise" into every thread on the board.....:facepalm:facepalm

Mr B,

I don't think you can run a clean program and recruit top talent. I doubt any of the top 25 teams recruit strictly by the rules. I think Jeff knew exactly what Coach O did to get Tiny. Every staff has an assistant with AAU connections that helps land top recruits.

We had absolutely no chance tonight. The hogs get away with murder and we are weak as women underneath the basket and stupid as a bird dog running the floor. Can we run over any more people on the way to the basket? When the officials changed the game plan in the second half it made the piggies back off a bit. Too little too late!

My well-placed inside source tells me Capel is gone after this year if he doesn't win.

This is wrong and you know it. No chance we can win right now.

I think tht you will be happy in the long run, others have tried to present me as pretending to have a direct line to Joe C., and to be sure i do not. But I do have friends from 10 years around OU and being close to the program that have told me that Jeff has a plan, the plan is sound, and the administration agrees. To be fair after we lost to Chamindae, I lost my mind, but I was re-assured that the powers that be are in concurrence that the direction that has been set forth is both thought out and had a solid opportunity for sucess. Jeff isn't a dummy.

Think what you want, you'll get money when we don't win 20 games this year, but I'd appreciate it if you don't make it personal, particularly when you offered to let me out of the bet when TMG and Tiny were gone and I stood by my word.

This is exactly how I feel. I love coming on this board and talking OU bball and hearing everyones opinons. I didn't log onto the Board for the game tonight for same reason, then when I do log on the first thing I see is posters attacking posters. :facepalm The negativity on this board is getting out of control.

Not trying to get personal, I just don't think your sources are that good. What on Gods green earth would entice Joe C to allow Capel to further destroy the mens basketball program for however many years he has left on his contract?

I have to believe Joe is handling this 1 day at a time and is not concerned with next year. If we win less than 10 games and fan support dries up as well as donations a change will have to be made because the AD depends on the revenue made from basketball.

As usual, JMizzy, you're the voice of reason. I was reasonably pleased with OU's effort tonight. If we played this hard in all of our games, we'd be 5-2 instead of 3-4 right now. I didn't say we played smart, but if the effort is there game in and game out, we'll at least be in most of our games this year.

Money that is committed and a thought out plan going forward. No more, no less. This is an administration that essentially fired Sunny Galloway and has kept Jack Spates. I'm not nor will I ever pretend to be an "insider", but from what I have been told is that Jeff gets a pass this season so long as the team plays hard and there are no NCAA issues. You add Goff and Osby to what we have on campus, plus bring in another recruit that can excel from the jump (IMHO a JUCO), you have an NCAA team. Information aside, and just to add, Joe C. and Boren are not the type of guys that easily admit a "mistake". Capel has one more year at least unless the team quits or we get hit with sanctions. That is what I have heard from a source I trust, whether you believe it or not is irrelevant to me.

these guys still aren't giving enough effort yet tho.. they will have to be the most mentally tough team to make up for their talent and experience.. teams i always played on were always undersized but we worked our asses off and boxed people out of the lanes to get Rebounds.. this team can do that too..

Sunny Galloway was fired? When did that happen?

And please don't compare 2 non-revenue sports to one of the bigger revenue producers in the athletic dept.

Is this what a one handed clap sounds like? Slapping yoself in tha face? Back in my day when derps acted up we smacked them upside the head, not ourselves. There's a lesson to be learned from that.
