Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [2-0] vs. Arkansas [3-0] Game Thread<<<<<

It was better in our last game.

I think/hope tonight was just a bad outing. I'm very disappointed in our performance in this game. We just didn't play smart. So many turnovers and if you're shooting 27% from three, perhaps it's time to stop jacking them up from deep.

That's just what basketball is in a lot of ways now. Teams want to be Golden State now. I'm not mad about that. Problem is we stink on defense now. And aren't good enough to play that pace so it comes across as sloppy ball.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [2-0] vs. Arkansas [3-0] Game Thread<<<<<

I know we have Portland tomorrow but I hope we get another name opponent in the last game.

Yep, I said before the tournament started that I would be happy with 2-1 on this trip. However, it would be unfortunate if we don't get a chance to build our resume in one of our next two games (hopefully playing at least a bubble-type team).....maybe UCONN or Oregon?

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [2-0] vs. Arkansas [3-0] Game Thread<<<<<

overall, a bette showing. I expected a loss. Piggies will be good. Our youngness showed...lattin is not a leader.

I agree thought Young was a little self centered at the end, but how many passes did he make (some not so good) that SHOULD have been an assist but we didn't convert...

I see at LEAST NIT, maybe ncaa.

It's NCAA or bust. Ou should never and I mean NEVER miss the tournament twice in a row.

I'm just not sure we got defensive ability to make it into the tourney. But a positive is that the conference isn't gonna be as strong as last year. Kansas isn't very deep. Still gonna probably win the conference though. ISU and WVU don't look too good to me. Lost a lot of players. Oklahoma State won't probably be as good. So we could be middle of the pack in the conference. I'm just not sure if that means a lot with a really tough schedule.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [2-0] vs. Arkansas [3-0] Game Thread<<<<<

Disappointing but still early - the games against USC and Wichita will say a lot more about where we are vs right now. Trying not to overreact but man this was a game we coulda/shoulda had.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [2-0] vs. Arkansas [3-0] Game Thread<<<<<

I don't have a problem with negative comments; make a few myself. But there is little point in taking seriously comments made by people who are always negative; or positive for that matter.

We played a tough team tonight with 4 seniors in their top 7 guys and two of them coming in shooting 50% from behind the arc.

Basketball is a game of many plays and sometimes we don't score and the other team does score. I think it would be hard to enjoy the game if I had to make a negative comment every time that happens. And some do that and probably no amount of push back will ever change that.

We lost the game because our freshmen played more like freshmen tonight, we lost because we missed too many free shots down the stretch and made too many bad decisions. Didn't see that many defensive breakdowns but they hit a lot of covered shots. Young was totally out of control the last 2 minutes and how many believe that that will happen often this year. We lost because they hit too many treys with many well contested with a hand in their face. They were hitting 37% against weak competition coming into this game. We lost because Manek was shooting not to miss rather than in his normal rhythm. And anything close to 20 turnovers is way too many particularly considering how well we handled their press. I think their pressure defense did get us out of sync on offense at times.

I didn't think we played that bad defense. Felt the rebounding hurt us more than our defense. 80-90 points is not out of the norm in a game that fast and our bad decisions on offense down the stretch added a lot of points for Arkansas. Young showed flashes of what he can become and Manek was solid except for missing so many shots he normally hits. We had a lot of chances to take the lead but failed to do so. We will get better. Hoped we would win so we could play Carolina but now we have to mug our way through the losers bracket.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [2-0] vs. Arkansas [3-0] Game Thread<<<<<

Whoever plays the best defense will win. That seems to be news.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [2-0] vs. Arkansas [3-0] Game Thread<<<<<

We are going to be fine. We are definitely better than last year, and have a much higher ceiling. We will be even better when Doolittle returns.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [2-0] vs. Arkansas [3-0] Game Thread<<<<<

Good game, hogs were just the better team today.....I think we a bit better than last year but still way to early to tell one way or the other.

my post was in ref to someone saying lucky to make NIT...I agree..

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [2-0] vs. Arkansas [3-0] Game Thread<<<<<

I expected this to be a real dogfight with andersons' style and the hogs senior backcourt. and it was.

every team should play an arkansas early in the season so their backcourt gets that experience. I thought we did parts of it well and others not so well.

I saw way too many instances of guys not closing out on a shooter at all in situations where we should have been. Especially from Lattin. I thought Lattin played a very lazy game.

Trae was nervous and it showed at times. Overall I thought he graded out OK though.

Our shooting was atrocious. Coach will use this game to show them how the shots wont always fall. Not to take away from the hogs though because their D had something to do with it. But quite honestly Trae found a dozen or so open shots for guys that were just totally wasted. Then he started to try to do everything himself.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [2-0] vs. Arkansas [3-0] Game Thread<<<<<

Just could not make a shot to get over the hump. Hopefully those fall for us in other games. Playing a senior-laden team was a good growing experience for our young team. Boomer Sooner. :lon

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [2-0] vs. Arkansas [3-0] Game Thread<<<<<

I didn't have a chance to see the game, but looking at the box score the thing that stands out to me is Manek and McGusty combining to go 0-9 on threes. That's not going to happen very often. Give them three of those and you have a whole different ballgame.

True! I keep forgetting Doolittle returns to the team in December.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [2-0] vs. Arkansas [3-0] Game Thread<<<<<

Arkansas is a really good team. They'll be a top 4 seed in the tournament. We played them close, adn the line tells you that Vegas respects this team. We will be fine.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [2-0] vs. Arkansas [3-0] Game Thread<<<<<

Honest question. Does OU have the quickness to play better defense? It really doesn't seem to be improving, at all.
hogs were a little quicker and OU looked very tired late in the game.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [2-0] vs. Arkansas [3-0] Game Thread<<<<<

We may have been a little tired but the bigger problem was that we began to force shots rather than work for a good shot. Young contributed to that. He has to take control of these close games and keep the offense running. A lot of it is mental. We have to believe that we can win these games and we are not there yet. Good test and hopefully we learn from it.

We gave up a lot of points but they were very hot and hit a lot of well contested shots. Also too many second chances. That may be a bigger problem as the season goes on.

well trae was a little overwhelmed. hogs good defense took our other stalwarts out offensively combined with some shooting not traveling well. of course he was pressing it a bit. he would find guys shots and they wouldnt drop them so he tried to do it himself more ... but that didnt happen 'til late. I actually thought for most of the game he was rather composed.

there were some bright spots. I thought Freeman actually did some good things and kept his head pretty well. he did a lot at the high post and top of the key coming down on the break and found open players. HE didnt hit shots, but he worked on boards and moved the ball well. Manek did things aside from shooting that were significant. Jordan had a few excellent plays. The first half we actually played pretty well. Arkansas hit a bunch of hard shots.

we've known for years and years that playing against that Arkansas style is a shock to young teams. I thought we did pretty well dealing with their punches. We didnt give up and we stayed close to the very end. They'll learn from this and win these games as their defense improves.

Very good analysis Cool. That is how I saw the game too. Encouraged by

Freeman's performance.
