+++++Oklahoma [4-1] vs. North Texas [4-3] Gameday Thread+++++

I agree Cool...NT has just played completely over their heads this game.

I'm willing to bet they don't make this many 3's in most, if not all of their remaining games lol. But I feel like that's said against OU all the time though

I'm impressed with their little guards man. pretty mature acting group. The coach's gameplan was solid. limit possessions makes our advantages mean less. then have solid possessions of your own. us not closing out was the biggest initial problem. theyve done much better there in the second half.

edit: and after I type this the announcer says the same thing. I didnt copy from him. it was rather apparent.

agree with the guys about grind it out games. fans freak out but they're good experience for nut-up times later.

defense is sound. just needs a little more energy. pace makes all the difference here. very easy to slow down games if you need to and have solid guards. Trae picks it up every time he can. you just hafta draw a balance between taking risks to get turnovers and when to just play solid and trust the [process.

I'm not freaked out at all. I just look at this as a wasted opportunity to get our bench some extended work against a really poor team. However, it just goes to show that if you don't bring the energy, you can end up in a dogfight against even the worst of teams.

see like right there CJ overplays the passing lane a bit and gets a steal. there's some of that energy we were lacking in the first half.

just like clockwork ... NT picks up the pace and now OU's athleticism starts to take over.

We are not near the team we will be once Doolittle gets back. One thing that concerns me though is McGusty. Not sure if something is going on here or not...but he just isn't having near the impact I thought he would. His minutes have got to increase imo!!

We shot almost as well from behind the arc as they did (44.8 to 43.5). Sure didn't seem like it.

I was very excited for the his soph year after seeing him as a true freshman .Saying that in the off season this summer I never heard Lon ever mention McGusty when talking about players who had improved .

North Texas was 16/29(55%) from inside the arc, and 13/29(45%) outside it.

Woof. All I'll say is thank goodness for Trae Young's offense.

Seems like their shots (North Texas) were more contested in the final 6-8 minutes of the game, but they still threw up a couple of 3 pointers that went in.

You are correct sir. Our perimeter defense was better in the second half when our players moved beyond the arc to eliminate wide open shots. NT shot 53% from three in the first half and 33% in the second, a difference of twenty percentage points.

Chad McKee was horrible on the call tonight, man.

Young did not have a great passing night, but if our bigs could catch, he has 15 assists.

I felt like the UNT coach had a lot of money on the under. Really boring. Time of possession had to be 3:1.

Need some offensive identity outside of TY.

Probably a guy that needs the ball in his hands

The switch to put Odomes on their point guard was a tremendous coaching adjustment. He's cutting off the penetration they were using to set up wide open 3's & their offense has become very static. No more wide open 3's.

Odomes is Daryan Selvey

I had a feeling after watching K State and OSU struggle last night against inferior opponents that tonight we might do the same. Trae is absolutely amazing on offense but he is definitely part of the problem with our perimeter three point D. He does not close out well on three point shooters.

Everyone on D needs to work harder and play smart team ball.
