LAWTON, Okla. -- Oklahoma officials say they don't understand how a proposed Big 12 Network could work considering that Texas already has an independent channel and the Sooners are working on one of their own.

University president David Boren told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Oklahoma still plans to form its own network and that he was surprised the Big 12 went public with the consideration of a conference network. The same third-tier television rights control what would be aired on either a school's channel or a conference channel.

Athletic director Joe Castiglione says he also was caught off-guard by the announcement that a conference network was back on the table.

What a mess.

Welcome to the Big 12 WAC. It's becoming comical. Osborne, Loftin and Deaton have to be laughing their arses off. The sad thing about this fiasco is the SN doesn't even realize they got hosed by the politician. They think Boren and Joe are a couple of Einsteins. OU is getting exactly what they deserve. When you hang around with dogs, you end up getting fleas. Did I mention OSU? lol

Lol @ the "OU network". Texas, a state like 7 times as large Oklahoma, can't get cable providers on board with a network backed by one of the biggest players in cable television. Yet, somehow an OU network is going to be a roaring success? We are becoming a freaking laughing stock.

Agreed, OU network is not feasible in the traditional brick-and-mortar model. They can increase their internet streaming content, but anything similar to Texas' network will fail.

I will refrain from commenting on TLN until after ESPN renews their provider contracts, they'll try to package it with their base channels in order to reach subscribers.

Funny! "Let me get this straight. The Big 12 wants to replace Reveille and Missouri with a musket toting hillbilly and a commuter school."

You know what would be funny at this point is if OU and Texas decided to just call the SEC and tell them if they would form a Southwest division with Arkie, LSU, OU, OSU, A&M, Texas, Ole Miss & Miss St and Texas could keep their own network we would merge with them. They can keep the SEC for the true southeastern schools and the southwest division would be the OU/Texas/LSU division.

O wait, they really want Missouri though so they would say no. ha ha

You can always dream, right?

Watching Missouri just get defiled in the SEC is going to be a nice laugh.

SEC is just going for sloppy seconds. Obviously being bent over by the Big 8/12 for decades was not enough for Missouri.

Just so I'm clear:

The SEC wanted Mizzou because they wanted someone who wasn't a threat to actually compete. They were only interested in an easy opponent.

West Virginia will bring more viewers and more money to the Big 12.

The SEC chose Mizzou over WVU, who desperately wanted to join that conference, despite MU contributing nothing athletically and financially. The result is a smaller pot for each of the 12 current teams in what has been the most profitable conference in the country.

The SEC could have had OU, who would not have been sloppy seconds, but OU said no. This despite your stance that the SEC sought programs that wouldn't threaten to top teams.

That about sum it up?

The fact is the SEC was operating from a position of strength. They had no shortage of options. They chose to expand and got who they wanted.
