The numbers he's putting up are getting borderline obscene. A natty is pretty much the only thing remaining (for those who may not know, HCC has lost the NCG 2 of the past 3 years to Trinity Valley) :

For the fifth consecutive season, John Ontjes led the Blue Dragons to a Jayhawk West championship and a 30-win season. The Blue Dragons have a five-year record of 167-7 and a Jayhawk West record of 76-2.

During the 2014-15 season, Ontjes became the program’s career coaching wins leader. He takes a 251-25 overall record into the Region VI Tournament.

The Blue Dragons have been dominant this season, winning 28 games by 10 or more points and 25 games by 20 or more points. HCC’s average winning margin this season is 33.4 points per game.

The 2015 Blue Dragons lead the Jayhawk West in scoring offense (81.9 points per game), field-goal percentage (49.0 percent), 3-point percentage (33.1 percent), rebounding (47.9 per game), assists (21.5 per game), scoring defense (48.3 points allowed per game), defensive field-goal percentage (29.4 percent), defensive 3-point percentage (25.4 percent), rebounds against (28.1 per game) and rebounding margin (plus-19.8).

HCC ranks second in the NJCAA statistical leaders in field-goal percentage and defensive field-goal percentage, third in assists and rebound margin and fifth in defensive scoring average.

Under Ontjes, HCC women’s basketball maintained its home-court winning streak, which is now the third-longest in women’s college basketball history and fifth longest in the college game regardless of level or gender at 117.HCC also has winning streaks of 36 against Jayhawk West competition, 25 in a row against the Jayhawk East, 63-straight regular-season non-conference wins and an overall regular-season winning streak of 64 that dates back to the 2012-13 season.

Looks like he may be ready for the big jump. Only issue would be recruiting. Adding him to the staff next year would certainly help in that regard. I think some new blood would do us some good.

The Trinity Valley mentioned in the article is located in Athens, Texas - about 60 miles SE of Dallas. An excellent school and a wonderful town. OU's football team has signed a few players out of TVCC over the years.

Kurt Budke, late coach from OSU, coached at Trinity Valley and won several National Championships there before going to OSU.

you would think he would be the perfect step in the right direction for Coale. They obviously turned it around and had a decent season, but can't deny the stagnent years and still not being at the top. He could help get them back there it seems

I think Ontjes would be crazy to come to OU as an assistant. He can be a head coach at a high D1 program if he's patient.

If Coale suddenly were to leave, then he would be my choice to replace her. The guy is good. Really good.

i would still be fine with it, but figure you have to let coale continue after this season
