Oral Roberts

It was James Hale and it was his call in show on sports animal. I know a lot of folks here think the program is in good shape. But IMO it is far from that and I really think it's time to take a close look at the Ladies basketball program. James Hale may not care, heck even Boren may not..I dunno. But we as fans should only want the best for the our team. SC best days are behind her far as coaching goes and IMO she is taking OU to the cleaner salary wise.
You are free to become a fan of another program. I think I see indications that they feel the same way about you on the men's board. Aren't you a fan of any OU programs?

I don't know about that, there was a guy that every game would call out the refs. I get tired of blaming the refs, players and fans for the short coming of coaching. I do like Lon and I think he is a good coach.

I like Lon, too. Let's compare:

Lon has coached 31 years as a head coach. He has been to 17 NCAA tournaments and two final fours. One elite eight and two Sweet sixteens.

Sherri has coached 20 years as a head coach. She has been to 17 straight NCAA tournaments and three Final Fours. Six sweet sixteens.

Top players in the nation recruited: Lon 0, Sherri 1

Who has the better record on top recruits?

Why do you dismiss Sherri whose record is actually a bit better?

You believe the direction of the two programs are going the same way?
Since Lon came to OU he at least kept the program on par, during that time imo the ladies have fallen

Syb, he follows women's basketball pretty well, but not as well as he used to. Wonder why that is?

Interesting to see your perspective on the games this year. I notice a not-so-subtle shift of annoyance -- and not from the people on this board disagreeing with you or writing stuff that you don't like.

You think the women's program was better in 1995?

I assume that you are referring to Hale. He admitted to me that his focus was always on football. It is rare that he pays attention to the women's basketball program. He doesn't see that he gets paid to.

James focus is always on football as that would pay his bills. But I have season tickets to men's and women's games and he is almost at every home game for each. He sits with press group in SW corner of floor. I've seen him talk to Sherri and Jan during halftime when they are attending men's games.

I joined the Insider website for recruiting information. I made it clear to James that I was interested in softball and women's basketball. His comment to me was that the money was in focusing on football. When we get a rumor on a potential basketball recruit, I ask him to check on it. Usually, we confirm it a week before he gets to it. He has written about two stories on potential recruits in two years that provided information not found here. Since it is a paid site, I don't reveal that information. But, it is rare. Usually, it is a status on several potential recruits. Now that the 17 cycle is over, he did have a story on Patterson, Johnson, Westbrook, the girl from Argyle, and another that I don't remember. At no time did he mention the three that we signed (maybe Ana).

Just watched the game replay. What a pathetic display of basketball the last 10 minutes. Absolutely no fire or teamwork. One-on-one basketball.

There isn't a single leader on that team, especially in the seniors.

I tape every game, and I usually watch each game at least three times. I have no intention of watching this. I don't know what can be learned.

Leaders are born not made! Or is it leaders are made not born!Either way OU lacks this as do many squads. Recruiting will be critical in this area! And yes it was hard to watch it was as if someone was just waiting for someone else to will the team. The problem is against teams like oral Roberts a good leader can take this on but against teams in the big 12 no matter the leader you can't blow 17 pt leads period!

I'm not saying he said anything incorrect! I KNOW the money is focusing on football! It pays the bills.

All I'm saying is that he is in attendance at almost every (I say almost because I don't look every time to find him) men's and women's basketball game. I can't remember when I've looked and he wasn't there. I've also seen him speak to Sherri and Jan on multiple occasions over the last few seasons during a men's basketball game when they were in attendance. I don't remember seeing Lon at a women's game (Capel did).

This team did not play like this the first 5 games against better competition. Southern Illinois defeated Purdue in West Lafayette. They actually were shooting well against ORU in 1st half, anywhere from 45 to 49% (or so the scoreboard showed). Then the last quarter and a half were just a nightmare.

Maybe it was the curse of DRob, since she was in attendance! ;)

To me it seemed like they were playing the last 10 min not to lose vs playing to win. I think that is something that sets many players apart. You sort of go in a cruise control mode and when you hit a wall most dont know how to respond. Response isn't always just scoring it's willing those to score it's willing those to compete. OU should not of been satisfied with just a win..when ORU started to contend which was multiple times during the game someone should of said NO. I have earned the opportunity to go to a top BSC level school and it is my duty to defend that. Not one of the bench players for OU should be any less competitive than a player that will go to ORU. Something is missing...and no matter what the talent level kids must compete to win all 40 minutes.
