It was held at the Tulsa County Jail on August 17 so Richard Dumas could attend.

Kind of tasteless. It did lead me to see this though. Drug suspensions for the NBA. http://www.apbr.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=13345 Some of the names really surprised me.

Yep, so many guys back in the day, had their careers derailed in the NBA due to drugs.

In fact, the 70's and 80's were the yrs that the negative rep of the NBA was formed. I do give credit to Stern for working on the image of the league.

Yeah - too bad we didn't have a class act like Dave Bliss to attend.

Dave Bliss is a choir boy when compared to Eddie Sutton, Sean Sutton, Byron Houston, Richard Dumas, etc.

If you don't believe me check public records criminal background checks.

I don't know about all that.

While I do feel Eddie Sutton has laughably been romanticized by the Oklahoma media, I definitely think Bliss belongs in any reprehensible category with other criminals associated with basketball in the state of Oklahoma. The guy tried to conceal a murder for his own selfish benefit, after all.

What exactly was Dave Bliss convicted of? That's what I thought!

What's laughable is how anyone could defend Dave Bliss.

The dude has even been busted for cheating in his high school gig, for crying out loud. Total scumbag.

Of course, this is boca we're talking about... so it's not surprising.

I would have to agree that having Bliss back sets the bar pretty low. But, he isn't even in the same league as that low life Sutton clan. Breaking NCAA rules doesn't even compare to criminal behavior. Eddie was a pill popper and drunk since his days at Arkansas. Sean is no better. Rehab does not work. He will do it again. They are both law breakers that got a pass.

Is drinking and pills worse than trying to make 18-21 year olds lie about a deceased player being a drug dealer, in order to mask his own transgressions? Defamation of a dead kid's character is pretty ugly, as is drunk driving, defending either is sad to read, and very confusing.

But, as long as your never convicted, be as morally reprehensible as you wish.

Rehab does not work

That might be the most ignorant statement I've heard in years. It depends on the person, not the institution. Rehab is meant to rehab your body from dependency. The mind can only be rehabilitated if that person is willing to.

NO!! You are are wrong. Talk therapy has the same long term success rate as no therapy. You will never find a legit study that indicates otherwise. The only thing that works for junkies is drug replacement therapy. I read things. Try it sometime.

Dave Bliss was guilty of a couple things: paying around $40,000 in Baylor tuition for some transfers and hiding his players failed drug tests from the school.

The allegations of drug use and possible dealing among Baylor players was A) proven to be accurate and B) not put out there by Bliss but by Patrick Dennehy's family and other players once he went missing. If you recall while he was missing there were all types of crazy rumors that Dennehy was executed in a drug hit, etc.

Bliss did make the mistake of trying to cover his tracks when he was getting exposed by mentioning to some other players and coaches involved in the infractions that if the perception was out there that Dennehy paid for his tuition from drug money it might save their skin.

But the overblown allegations that he put the drug story out there initially including telling the sheriffs office were false and he was not charged with any obstruction.

like I said the mind will do as it pleases. PHYSICAL DEPENDENCY can be solved through rehab.

gary - you're clueless. come work in the field for awhile and maybe you will learn something.

I bet you feel the same way about Austin Box...

I like how hiding a young man's drug problem (these horrible, morally reprehensible law breakers) is not as bad having a drug problem.

For the record I'm not saying either is respectable. It embarrasses me to see Eddie's name on the court.

Another one. I'll try again. Talk therapy has about the same long term success rate as no therapy. Anyone that says otherwise, is someone trying to sell therapy. If you are in the field and are treating drug addicts with anything other than drug replacement therapy. Then you are a fraud.
