OT: Changes at OUInsider

According to a recent post by Brian Bishop, after the move to OUI's new boards, only O'Connell's and the Ticket Exchange boards will be free. For the rest of their boards, anyone can read them, but you will have to be a paying member to post. I let my membership expire because it wasn't worth the cost. Nothing has happened to change my opinion on that.

Wow. That's just unbelievable. That's a surefire way to alienate your potential customer base. And it's especially crazy since the new board software you're wanting people to pay to post on is a significant downgrade from what they are currently posting on for free.

I'm definitely for a creation of an OUPigskin or whatever you want to call it.

He can make that work if he has a small fee. Something like a full membership and junior membership. If the fee for the junior membership is nominal (say $5.00) most will pay it. They might complain about it but most will pay it. If the guy starts making groups of 2,000 junior members per month (they renew in different months) he could have an extra $10K cash flow per month. I have no clue what type of revenue a site like OUinsider does but an extra $10K of cash flow a month for a small business is a good thing.

If he charges too much he risks pushing his "free" traffic to another site. Presumably that impacts advertising dollars and new subscriptions.

Thanks. Check is in the mail. :D

I also made a thread on their hoops board, telling any who do not want to pay to post to come over here for hoops.

Hopefully we get some new active posters because of this.

This comment made me laugh..

We now have over 4,000 posts on a typical day and many of them are worthless. They are time consuming for users and our staff as well.

If you are serious about OU sports we think less than 30c a day, ($ 8.95/mo) is a fair price to pay for the information and the fact that almost everyone posting will be as passionate about OU sports and not lurkers making crank posts, or ill-informed people starting and fueling wild rumors.

Morons.

Re: This comment made me laugh..

I don't think charging a small fee just to post is that bad of an idea, would seriously consider doing it if I was running a business. It is all about price points, at which level are you going to maximize the value?

Re: This comment made me laugh..

I think he's calling them morons because of the comment about posters being worthless.

We might do a football version these OUHoops boards and home page (with free info as we do here) on a football-themed domain. If so, would you guys post there and help us promote it?

I'm pretty sure the majority of people from ouinsider would frequent it if it also included a loosely mediated off topic board.

I use this site for OU basketball and OUinsider for football. That is until now. So, yes I would help promote it.

Think what the OC would be like with no moderation!!!!!!!!!!!! As a matter of fact, it's probably the most moderated board they have!

Yeah an OC with less moderation is probably a bad idea. Just look at what happened to the Inner/OuterWebs. That basically is/was OC w/o moderation.

I would

I'm strongly considering it and looking into it today.

Please do. People are literally freaking out over there. There are morons on every board, just choose to ignore them or do not go to the OUHOOPS version of Owen Field if/when it becomes available.
