OT: Football Talk

of course he can if he wishes .. I would even make a separate section for it ..
Well damn. You're a dirty talker when you want to be.

Seems like he's tired of the dram though. I understand.

Ben Arbuckle as the new OC… Hopefully he works out. Just need an average offense to pair with the defense.
I don't have a lot of data, but I think it's a good hire, based upon what candidates were available. The first thing that has to get substantially better is the O-line. If it isn't much better, than it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme....although a better scheme could certainly mask a few of the offensive line deficiencies in certain cases. Another question is if we also end up getting their QB Mateer as well....and then which QB(s) leaves or not.

Well, looks like Arnold has entered the portal, although I thought it didn't open for a few days??

Man, I don't think that dude will get remotely the money he's getting from OU.
I don't think he will get remotely what he is getting from OU if he stays at OU either.
I'm sure OU said they would love to have him back to compete but that his NIL will be greatly reduced.

I think it is better for all parties if OU is confident they are getting Mateer and Hawkins is staying

Agree with this. NIL deals are generally not guaranteed, long-term deals. If you play as poorly as he did, and the team has tons of holes to fill, there was little chance they’d make him a priority in handing out the money. We need to bring in a good starter in the portal. If not, I think Hawkins next year is as big a gamble as Arnold was this season. We can’t afford to go into another season in the SEC with a totally unproven quarterback. I know people hope/expect he will improve under a new OC, but that’s far from guaranteed.

This signing class is not encouraging. Saw espn has it ranked 19. As the losses piled up the past three seasons, the only tangible thing people could point to as “progress” was where our classes ranked compared to the Riley days. This isn’t trending in a good direction.

It is a top 10 class by quality. It is just a smaller class and hence ranked lower.
The portal haul this year will determine if BV is still the coach this time next year

Probably true. As Teddy said a couple weeks ago, we need to hit some home runs in the portal. Adding several decent players won’t cut it. We need immediate impact players.

To Bounce’s point, quantity is certainly what’s bringing the class ranking down. Pretty easy to argue we signed the best OL class in the country out of high school. For the transfers, I think it’s more about what positions those home runs come at. We need them at QB, EDGE, and CB. Wouldn’t hurt to add another OT as well. That’s where I’ll be looking in the portal activity

If r mason stays… edge will be fine.

All resources to qb, another wr just in case and OL

They need a lot of quality portal help on Offense QB, OLine, WR TE…they also need someone who can evaluate talent in the portal…last year they ended up with a bunch of MASH unit guys

I’d give 90% of my recruiting resources to transfers over HS recruits.
This. This is the secret sauce. Why give 2 million to JA when he's a total unknown (osu gave only 1.6 mil to ollie gordon. Alan bowman got 400k FYI)? Transfers are the future. High school recruiting might get relegated to only depth players at some point and you put your money on the transfers (of course 5 stars will continue to get paid regardless)

Man I’m the complete opposite

I'm pretty sure this means we have a QB lined up, likely Mateer. I'm not sure Mateer has as high of a ceiling, but he has a much higher floor, and this will make it infinitely easier/faster to implement a new offense. I think 8-4 keeps BV employed, and I think Mateer likely is the easiest path toward that, so I can understand.

How so? Paying for a 5 star HSer can be very risky as they might not even be "ready" to play year 1 and then it's like 60% chance you'll lose them at the end of the year for a myriad of reasons. Pitch me your side
