OT: Football Talk

I don't see how there can be a salary cap since the schools aren't the ones putting up the NIL money. Technically, the kids aren't making salaries. They're contracting out with businesses to use their name, image, and likeness to advertise.
I think there would be a way to where companies can't offer the NIL package based on them committing to your school. I really don't know anything about how it will work, but there will be rules in place to stop this madness.

I don't think in professional sports Gatorade can offer you more $ to entice you to sign with a certain team.

In what way? I'm trying to think of a consequential play he made.
So often message board chatter gets dismissed as snark, but I'm genuinely curious. I just spent three minutes hunting for his statistics.
I agree. It's one thing for people to say that they still feel confident that he has a bright future (based on what, I'm not sure, other than the usual comments that coaches make about all players), but to say that he had a very good year seems a stretch. Last year, it was PJ who got a lot of attention before the season, and the thought was that he was so physically gifted that he would make an impact sooner rather than later. Two years in, and it seems most of that potential is still untapped.

he improved basically all season long (so much so that he got legitimate snaps by the end of the year) he won his battles one on one .. and showed himself to be a future force on the dline .. (Gerald McCoy RS as a freshman at OU it takes time for guys on the LOS)

he is very much living up to his recruiting ranking .. and is right on track ..

the NCAA settlement (that already has prelim approval) includes a revenue share cap ..(of a little over 20 mil) directly from the schools ..

it also includes a clearing house for ALL NIL deals .. according to the agreement the are required to be true NIL at market rates .

watch the tape on David Stones snaps ..

this is the same logic some OU fans had that tommie Harris didn't have very good DT stats so he must have been overrated ..

now the issue is that long term neither of those things will will survive future court cases ..

even the NCAA knows that they need federal legislation to go with the settlement .. (and in fact the settlement requires the players to help lobby for legislation)

I think 10 years from now, if there are no changes, we’ll see all top players entering the portal to renegotiate their deals for more money every year. The market will reset every year as HS players get CFB experience and the real players are distinguished from the busts.

If there are no guardrails, all players will test the market every year and their agents will push it. Under the current setup, any good player would be foolish not to test the market every year.
in 10 years from now .. (with out federal legislation to keep the status quo) college football players will be employees with a union and a CBA ..

Apples and oranges. Of course DTs don’t always pile up stats. But great ones tend to be on the field a lot more than Stone was this season. Again, he may be great eventually, but this season, he was a depth player.

I said this like 4 years ago with bryce young.. he could have been the first free agent heisman player. Idk why he didn't exploit the dog poop system the ncaa has allowed

He had a good year for a true freshman.
But at what price? I think I'd rather have like 4-5 one year left starving DTs that started all year and threw up numbers at smaller schools, than paying who knows what for 2 years for a still-developing 5 star. Idk. I hate all of this.

Put back in the sitting out to transfer rule immediately.

My attorney fees still get regulated in the year 2024 of our lord (for some reason despite a much smarter populace and internet access to about the entire globe) but I keep hearing this line that there is nothing that can be done legally in college sports and idk exactly what that is supposedly based on

how and by whom??
1. There is a general rule of "reasonableness" (we have to prove up our $5,000 probate flat fees now even and get approval from the Court unless they are paid "outside of the estate")
2. Can never have a > 50% contingency
3. The Court/Bar Association

thank you i didn't know that was a thing ..

Nic Anderson leaving illustrates why I think people are wrong in thinking that we will be fine "once we get healthy." No guarantee the WRs who were hurt stick around, or that they will be any good if they do come back. We are probably looking at a complete rebuild offensively. I hope a lot of kids want to come play for the new OC, because it's hard to think offensive talent would be lining up to play for Brent.

Nic Anderson illustrates selfishness. Was healthy & chose not to play.

I lean towards this as well but we don't really know what happened.
I think he was hurt and reaggravated his quad injury. Then decided he wasn't going to play regardless after seeing how back the offense was

I’m not his doctor or trainer so couldn’t tell you if he was healthy enough to play, but regardless of the details, it shows that it isn’t just as simple as saying “we will be fine once we have all our guys back.” I’ll bet he isn’t the only of the allegedly great receivers who won’t play for us again.
