You guys don't know the half of it. I have a hookup on football (not basketball sadly). The whole thing is drama drama dramaI’m not his doctor or trainer so couldn’t tell you if he was healthy enough to play, but regardless of the details, it shows that it isn’t just as simple as saying “we will be fine once we have all our guys back.” I’ll bet he isn’t the only of the allegedly great receivers who won’t play for us again.
Anthony they are leaning on him to go elsewhere and/or retireI’ve heard he could’ve played for awhile. Burks, Farooq, & Anthony tried like crazy to come back. So even if they leave at least they tried to play for OU while they were there.
Why? Do they not think he can physically get back to where he needs to be?Anthony they are leaning on him to go elsewhere and/or retire
YupWhy? Do they not think he can physically get back to where he needs to be?
Wow. Must have been a worse injury than people realized, because we aren’t exactly in a position where we would be looking to let him go otherwise.
Idk.. but I've heard he had a school lined up as of last weekNic Anderson illustrates selfishness. Was healthy & chose not to play.
While I don’t disagree about the rebuild, I don’t think we are so far off from having a formidable offense with the right moves. Bear with me here:Nic Anderson leaving illustrates why I think people are wrong in thinking that we will be fine "once we get healthy." No guarantee the WRs who were hurt stick around, or that they will be any good if they do come back. We are probably looking at a complete rebuild offensively. I hope a lot of kids want to come play for the new OC, because it's hard to think offensive talent would be lining up to play for Brent.
I would bring in an additional starting QB to push Mateer, even if MH stays. That's what the cutthroats will/would do (watch and see how many QBs Lincoln riley brings in..)While I don’t disagree about the rebuild, I don’t think we are so far off from having a formidable offense with the right moves. Bear with me here:
QB: bring in Mateer. At this point that is a must. There’s connections there and we NEED a guy that can stabilize that position for a couple seasons
RB: keep XRob and Tatum (and hope he learns how to hold onto the ball before next season)
WR: Bring back at least 2 of the 5 injured guys (likely down to Farooq, Gibson, and Burks) and add a guy or two from the portal. There will be a heavy amount of WR in the portal and with the rumors of money pouring in for transfer guys, we should be able to grab one.
TE: I got nothin here. I guess hope Davon Mitchell figures it out by next year or that we luck into a solid one in the portal. Pretty gross positional outlook right now tbh.
OL: returning Howland, Ozaeta, and Everett - all of whom were playing good ball the last month of the season - as well as EPL, Sexton, Nwaiwu, Taylor, and Eugene Brooks. PLUS adding the best high school OL class in the country (although they may not contribute right away).
If we can land Mateer and a decent WR out of the portal plus a capable TE, the offense could still be formidable with a new scheme. I know that’s a lot of ifs, but those are all reasonable takes as far as future outcomes go.
I hadn't heard sharp. Why on earth would he leave? He miss SELSUA&M?Nic Anderson won't be alone at WR hitting the portal. In fact the injured WRs coming back are gonna be pretty thin. Like maybe one guy. Also Sharp is probably gone too.
He can go anywhere but OU. bye.I hadn't heard sharp. Why on earth would he leave? He miss SELSUA&M?
That last sentence is really concerning. If that’s true, something has to change. We can’t be a house divided. I know some people in the AD are resistant to change but we either adapt and thrive or we die.I would bring in an additional starting QB to push Mateer, even if MH stays. That's what the cutthroats will/would do (watch and see how many QBs Lincoln riley brings in..)
I think we need a lot of WRs. I think ours are not very good minus burks and not tough.
Most of the players are toxic/mistrusting bc of OU med staff. And the coaches and Joe castiglione aren't on the same page either
Castiglione is a relic and needs to be put out to pasture asapThat last sentence is really concerning. If that’s true, something has to change. We can’t be a house divided. I know some people in the AD are resistant to change but we either adapt and thrive or we die.
Joe c. made BV hire littrell for "stability and continuity".. which is terrible for many reasonsIt’s far from the only/biggest concern, but the Sharp situation is so troubling to me. I heard so many times in the spring how good he looked, and you know that if Gabe and Teddy are going on and on about that, they are likely repeating what they’ve been told by the staff. Yet as soon as the games started, he was absolutely awful in just about every way. How does that happen? Is the talent evaluation awful? Player development? And he is just one example. Everyone was so high on Hicks and he never saw the field. Again, are these guys just not nearly as good as our coaches think, or are they just not developing them or coaching them well enough that they can learn make the jump from high school to college? And I know people will point to injuries, but I still maintain that for all the hype about our WRs, the production hasn’t been all that great even when healthy.
I think we have a steep hill to climb. Brent is solely responsible for making a terrible hire at OC, and for not having a better overall offensive staff. And however he wants to describe it, he also bears at least some responsibility for the fact Gabriel didn’t finish his career at OU. All of which is to say, he created this mess, and I hope that if it’s still bad next year, people don’t suggest he should get yet another year since he is working with a new OC and quarterback.
I agree. It's one thing for people to say that they still feel confident that he has a bright future (based on what, I'm not sure, other than the usual comments that coaches make about all players), but to say that he had a very good year seems a stretch.
I hope a lot of kids want to come play for the new OC, because it's hard to think offensive talent would be lining up to play for Brent.
You and Boulder are both correct. When Stone was in the rotation, he won more than his share of one-on-one plays....at least according to Gabe and Teddy. But his plays were limited to some degree until later in the season. I expect him to make more of an impact next year now that Dajon Terry will be leaving.Apples and oranges. Of course DTs don’t always pile up stats. But great ones tend to be on the field a lot more than Stone was this season. Again, he may be great eventually, but this season, he was a depth player.
