OT: Football Talk

A lot of smoke surrounding Anthony's rehab. None of it paints a pretty picture.

My understanding is that most major OU players have surgery outside of OU's health system. Rehab may be a different story, and I certainly don't know who operated on Anthony, but there's a good chance it wasn't somebody directly affiliated with OU.

I don’t know the answer so this is an honest question: has there been much turnover in the medial staff in recent years, or is it mainly the same people who were around when Riley (and even Stoops) were coaching? It is hard to believe that one of the elite football programs in the country could be (apparently) so bad on the medical side of things.

Watching the Big 10 championship game seeing the guy who should still be our QB facing off against the guy who should be our OC. Hard to believe how badly we messed things up last Dec/Jan.

Don’t understand anyone blaming the doctors. They are blaming the training staff. Allegedly giving them therapy and putting them back at practice without doing an mri and this lead to misdiagnosis and more serious injuries

Oh, and they are alleging to much lower body strength training and inadequate speed and stretching for skill pkayers.

I hadn't heard that about Burks.....but I haven't been paying too close attention. That's too bad, I think he could potentially light it up (when healthy) in an offensive system like this. Outside of his fumbling, I've always been a fan of Farooq. He plays hard and he is our best run blocker at WR by a good margin. I would like to have him back if possible. I'm afraid Anthony is likely damaged goods and won't ever be the same.

I may have gotten bad intel on Burks.

Given how bad our offense is, I shouldn't be that worried about all the guys leaving, but it is pretty damning that all of the WRs are hopping in the portal. I hope Robinson and Tatum stay, but even if they do, we will have to replace every other skill guy on the offensive side. If I thought our coaches were capable of identifying and bringing in good players and developing them, this would feel like an opportunity. But so far, looks like we have offered a few group of five players. Arbuckle may really have a tough job to put together a decent offense.

We will see. Hate losing some of the WRs. Hoping Arbuckle's scheme is good enough to get guys open.

I'm not too worried about offering group of 5 receivers. Receivers in p4 schools that are transferring are mostly those not good enough to break the starting lineup or are injured. Seems we are targeting those in lower levels that have excelled and looking to up the competition

We need a talent infusion, and guys from lower levels usually aren't the way to do that. I guess my comment is more directed to the overall roster than just WR. If we bring in another handful of mediocre OL guys from smaller schools, we will be staring at another season where making a bowl will be a 50-50 proposition.

1 guy that played real snaps as a wr has left ..

I mean, come on Boulder -- all season, a common theme from the fan base was some version of, "we will be fine once we get the WRs back." I never believed that because our offense is bad at every position and our offensive staff is terrible, but it's disingenuous to act like it's not a bad sign that the position group that was supposed to be our strength is now going to have to start from scratch.

OU had devastating injuries at 3 key positions and 1 entire Room ..(Center OT and WR)

without those they go 8-4 or better ..

WR's are widely available in the portal .. and OU will get 3 or 4 of them ..

starting as soon as today

BMD told my friend that we are pretty strapped for NIL (bribery) monies (keeping the current roster and recruiting class). Sounds pretty dire to me.

We have a package for mateer that we have offered and he has until friday to decide. I'm not sure if it would require him to change his plans and skip the bowl game, but it should, or be less money imo

Our line wasn't good even if everyone was fully healthy. It was a known weakness coming into the season. Thinking that this was an 8-4 caliber team is dangerous -- I hope the head coach doesn't fall into that trap. We were a disaster at TE (have been since Brent arrived), had a revolving door at RB (have since Gray), got terrible QB play, and couldn't keep our WRs on the field. If those guys stay healthy and produce at their new schools, that is yet another damning statement on our program.

We need him -- just saw that the Tulane QB is going to Duke. Any idea what our backup plan is if Mateer doesn't come?

We were so close to 7-5 with those injuries, I mean we gave away Missouri.

True, but Auburn could just as easily say they gave us a win, and we had to hold on for dear against a bad Houston team when we still had Burks. I just think that when you look at our season as a whole, 6-6 is an accurate reflection of what we were.

It was an 8-4 caliber team. It isn't dangerous to say that. It is really dishonest to say it isn't.
But continue to discount being out 5-6 of the top receivers.
8-4 is still a mediocre team...its not like we are saying we would be playoff bound if not for the injuries

Check the thread. Boulder is the one who downplayed the WRs we are losing. I just wonder who would have thrown the ball to them or blocked for them even if they were available. Look at Burks. We heard all spring and summer that he was going to be a game changer and a home run hitter because of his speed and quickness, and he averaged 7.9 yards per catch because we rarely threw the ball more than five yards behind the LOS.
