Other College BBall Thread 2024-5

I do not care how bad Texas looks. They own Moser and the current streak they have on us is embarrassing. Talk to me if/when he finally beats them. Ill be here.

It has been very frustrating to say the least and it has to change this year. Need to start our own winning streak.

Kelvin lost 5 or 6 in a row to Texas, also. Of course he had won 7-8 straight before that and generally owned Texas in the 90s. Texas has gotten significantly more talented since the 90s, though.

Hopefully we turn the tide on they ass this year.

And start by beating some aggie ass tonight!

Please and thank you!

Every coach we’ve had has had success against them, that’s why before Moser got here we had a like 16 game lead in the all time series. A lead that is evaporating at light speed. Get it done!

Part of that is that OU pretty much always had a much much better coach. Then Texas got beard.

He is now gone and so are his guys. I expect OU to win a bunch vs Texas going forward at least until they make a coaching change

I watched Auburn and Iowa State today pull out road wins. Both teams made clutch free throws and executed in do-or-die situations. Among many things, our continual inability to do those things late in games during Moser’s time stands out. We are a great free throw shooting team, but the games in Atlantis wouldn’t have come down to the wire if we had taken care of business at the line, and not turned the ball over, late in those games. Fears obviously made the winning FT against Michigan, but he and Moore both missed crucial ones against Louisville, and Fears barely got his front end to the rim on Wednesday. We have struggled so badly in late and close situations over the years that it’s hard to not expect the worst. As small a margin as we have, we need to figure out a way to be mentally tougher or it’s going to keep costing us games (and tournament berths).

the #1 and #2 team in the country pulled out road wins .. ?? wow .. amazing ..

Chris Beard and Ole Miss with the road win at Bama. The same Bama team that was talked about on the board as the greatest team since the ‘96 Bulls. Held them to 64 points. The guy is a tool but man can he coach. Can only dream of a team that competes that way defensively. 4-0 with two road wins. They don’t turn it over and made every free throw the final two minutes. Tough team.

Chris beard is a degenerate human being, a complete asshat but he sure as hell can coach basketball.

Watched some of the sec games last night. From what I saw, there will not be a "gimme" on the schedule. Geez, they all looked good, and everyone had really good and athletic bigs. How did all these bigs end up in the SEC? Wow.

The home court advantage in officiating across the SEC is crazy to the point of almost having to be corrupt. Every game I watched. I mean, it was insane the imbalance in officiating. Shouldn't be that hard to "call it both ways", but that is not what is happening.

The freshman superstar guard for Arky, Boogie Fland, is having an identical year to Fears. Great in the non-con but really struggling in conference. He came out of his funk a little against LSU, so we need to hope Fears does the same. Trae Young had the same situation his freshman year. I think it is just the scout and physicality is so ramped up and freshman have a difficulty adjusting. The game announcers did a pretty good job of discussing the issue of explaining the difference in non conference play and conference play in the context of Fland.

I've said for two years now that the people who thought we would do well simply because Moser had beaten SEC teams in noncon games were drastically inflating the significance of those one-off games. Teams do not scout or prepare the same for a Big 12/SEC challenge game, or a Jumpman Invitational game, that they do for conference games. Add in the fact that teams get familiar with your style of play over the course of multiple games played over many seasons, and it was pretty easy to predict that our conference woes would follow us to our new league.

As for the SEC, it has been the most athletic league for a long time now, and that includes the bigs. It was another reason why it was pretty easy to predict our struggles.

I don't think Texas is nearly as bad as people here seem to think. Tonight would be a tough game even if you didn't factor in Moser's inability to beat them.

So far, the sec is the toughest conference of all time this season by the metrics. It’s in another stratosphere than the sec from the past few seasons.
