With the rise of Baylor, K-State, Iowa State, and until this year A&M, it seems like OU, OSU, and Tech are being pushed down. Now you get rid of A&M while they are slipping and add West Virginia (17-10, Bob Huggins) and the league gets even better.

Is there ever a point when a program just sucks for a long period of time? OU was good for about 25 years in the modern era. Now, in both recruiting and results they are behind the above mentioned teams.

Have OU and OSU turned into those Nebraska and Colorado teams of the Big 12 era? They have some decent players, every now and then put themselves on the bubble or get into the NIT, and other times suck.

Is that the new reality for OU and OSU basketball? Or will OU recruit and coach well enough to pass Baylor, ISU, WVU, and KSU again?

That next recruiting class will probably tell the story for Oklahoma. They will lose Fitz, Pledger, Osby, and Grooms after next year. Either they recruit real players or they sink for awhile.

I don't know... it's just hard for me to accept that these programs could be headed for perpetual mediocrity.

Despite having that random NCAA tournament team here or there, neither Nebraska nor Colorado ever produced the kind of sustained success that OSU and OU have achieved, have they?

Both OSU and OU have been to the Final Four in the past 10 years. Both have good facilities and good fan support (when the teams are good).

I just can't imagine we'll both be down in perpetuity.

I'm actually kind of encouraged about OSU for next year. Maybe it's my orange-colored glasses, but I've seen glimpses of what could be a pretty good team next year, especially with the additions for Smart and Forte. So we'll see.

I honestly haven't watched OU enough to make a longer-term assessment.

OSU, at least on paper, has an advantage in the next couple of years over Oklahoma. They have Marcus Smart, Brian Williams, Cobbins, Markel Brown (who is busting out as a star this year), etc. But, Ford has had talent in the past, including this year, and have sucked.

also, if OU is the new nebraska or colorado, maybe you will start rooting for them again

This sounds like work for....

OU is 1 guard away from being in the top 5 of the big 12 this year. The only reason OU has fallen these past 3 years is b/c we have had to many departures from guys who would have contributed. We lost Pattillo and Willis to character issues, TMG, Gallon, and Warren to the NBA DRAFT, and Newell and Taylor b/c they didn't want to be here. I'm sorry, but i'm not one that thinks that OU has fallen that far. OU just hasn't brought in any instant stars since Blake and Willie..the rest of the players need/ed a year or more to get better and that would be fine if we weren't losing so many players in the process.

As for OSU...talent wise they could be #1 in the big 12 and top 10 next year. Ford better to put together not just a winning season but a damn good season or he's gone.

So to compare OU and OSU to Nebraska and Colorado is a joke.

Why? Are you saying that OU will be good forever? Outside of that stint OU had with Blake Griffin, they are 43-62. Programs rise and fall. It seems silly to assume that OU is going to be good just because they are OU, when they have been so bad.

For years Nebraska and Colorado were in that position of fighting for the middle of the conference. Who is to say OU wont be in that position now?

Kansas
Kansas State
Iowa State
West Virginia
Texas
Oklahoma State
Oklahoma
Texas Tech
Baylor
TCU

Can you, with a straight face, tell me in the next year or two that OU will be better than 6 of those teams?

OU will be better than ISU, ,TT,TCU I believe the next two years with a chance to be better than KSU, OSU, & WVU. Outside chance of being better than texas

this is a dumb question anyways b/c kruger needs more than 1-2 years to get things going again...plus we don't have colorado or nebraska to beat

West Virginia loses its best player in Kevin Jones who gets over 11 boards a game and scores over 20 ponits per game. They also lose their next highest scorer in Bryant at 16 points per game. They will not easily replace that. Even if they do, they will struggle on the road (and everyone will have problems going to West Virginia) because the road trips are so long. I am not too worried about West Virginia.

Two years? I seroiusly doubt OU is all that good in two years. They will lose Grooms, Blair, Pledger, Osby and Fitzgerald after next season. Anyone that doesn't think that is going to hurt the team is kidding themselves. That is a big loss for a single season. They also lose Arent but I don't think that matters much.

Even with a great recruiting class OU will only return Cam Clark, M'Baye, Neal, Hield and Hornbeak. They will have zero experience at pg, need a forward that can play and a bench.

Despite Coach Capel not getting it done on the recruiting front last year, I believe OU had the 5th or 6th highest hoops budget in all of college basketball. I seriously doubt Colorado or Nebraska paid that kind of attention to hoops. With a top-10 budget, I seriously doubt OU remains stuck in mediocrity for much longer.

OU needs to get some guards. I think OU actually has the inside game next year to matchup with just about anyone. Ro, and Fitz alone are great. Supposedly Mbaye has been the best player in practices we'll see if that goes on to next year. Outside of Pledger OU has nothing at guard that can score. That's been OU's biggest thing to overcome.

warren to the nba draft, tmg, newell and taylor b/c they didn't want to be here. Gallon because we paid him and he didn't want to be here.
