OU-Gonzaga game thread

Maddie needs some ice for her butt over the next 48 hours.

Gabbi, you are allowed one foul in the first half and one foul in the second half - that's all! ;-)

Kudos to the Sooner fans at the game. I didn't expect to see more Sooner fans than Gonzaga fans there. I guess the Gonzaga road warriors all follow the men.

Glad to see another poster on here. I thought the fans had abandoned us???

The Zags seemed to only have the high screen and drive down the middle. That was their most productive play all night. Not much outside shooting.
3-18 from the three

OU was 10-23. Ball game!

I had to listen. Since my only option was watching Baylor, I retreated to my computer and listened online. Texas Southern?

I'm rather surprised that Little woke up so well. She has been asleep late in the season. Good shooting, rebounds, and assists. Other than that, this is about what the team statistics for Gonzaga would have projected. I expected a slightly better performance from three from the Zags, but not much better.

In their conference, BYU had the best rpi (90). Gonzaga had simply played a very weak schedule after playing about three tough non-conference games. They even lost to a couple of teams that were 243 and 314. You wouldn't really expect a great team. Our work begins now.

Two weeks of practice only must have been good for them.

I saw the game vs Washington 2 or 3 years ago. I didn't get to the game last year. How do you defend her? I don't want to see our players getting in foul trouble trying to stop her or their center. Try to lock down the other 3 players and see if those two can beat you by themselves?

Root for Montana State!!!!;)

If SC wants to have a chance to win, she better get TT and Gioya off the court. They have played this way since high school. Gamble, drive into the trees, miss shots, throw the ball way....

Well, I could go on and on.

Bad Gambles......

And you forgot to mention losing your girl on defense.

:o

Syb,

An option is to use "WatchESPN".

You go to ESPN.com, go to NCAAW, then look for the "watchESPN" link. It is on the right side at the top for me.

Once you do, if you have almost any cable provider, you can indicate that - and all the current games show up - for free. The quality is excellent on our PC.

The game was on ESPN2 - regular cable in OKC - but the quality on cable was almost as good.

But I guess you were lucky since you got to watch a very competitive game anyway. :facepalm

We have had to deal with Plum for two years. I think she scored forty something in Norman. She hits her shots.

As you can see, we beat them 71-68 in Seattle with Plum scoring 30. But, she shot 27 times, and we did win the rebound battle. Osahor got 13 rebounds, but Walton, the other big-time scorer was something like 4 of 19 from the field. They had us down 66-60 with 2:46 left. Then, look to see what happens.

We beat them 90-80 the year before in Norman. Plum had a great night, but it wasn't enough. Even Kornet helped. Kay Kay came up big in both games. I think height inside bothers Washington.

Thanks. Didn't know that.

If you didn't notice, the two top teams in the Pac 12 struggled against weak competition. Oregon State won by one. Stanford trailed most of the game to New Mexico.

What was everyone's thought on Chelsea's Flagrant 1 foul? I thought she was fouled before she fouled the Gonzaga player.

I'm sure she was fouled beforehand as our beloved officials were swallowing whistles since it's the playoffs and everyone is looking for a good fight. I think almost every time I've seen a play like that though, they've pretty much called a flagrant. I don't think she intended to hit the other player but if you hold ball overhead and you're getting mugged and you make any kind of move, you're going to get called for flagrant almost every time.

I cannot get the mobile app to let me sign on, but I did get to see the game today.

We played good defense most of the game and good offense for 2 quarters.

I thought the substitution pattern was a little weird today, but it may be because Sherri' knows she going to need her starters more on Monday.

Vivi is the best player on this team, period. As was Syb, I'm really glad Peyton showed up shooting today. I wish Maddie, Peyton and Ortiz could all do that along with Vivi for a couple games straight.

I thought we'd win tonight after I saw the draw. Before, I thought for sure we'd be one and done given the way we finished the season, but I give credit to the coaches and players for a good performance.

We have to do better on the boards.

I guess Sherri got tired of Mulkey being lost and not playing well. Don't blame her. I know she's a freshman, but she's just not very strong and tough yet.

The match-ups will be interesting next game. I'm going to assume that Little matched against Plum. Vivi is going to have her hands full and better be thinking about keeping her hands and arms straight up.

We meed to play a complete game at a high level. If we get further than the next game, it's all gravy.

Glad we won.

I don't know how many watched the A&M - Penn game, but it was am embarrassment for WBB.

A&M started that fouling, beating up the opponent style but NO fouls were called until they had to have them called to hope for missed free throws.

The NCAA will destroy WBB if they don't put a total stop to that trash. No one wants to watch a fight on the floor, which is what that game became.

Complete and total cheating. No resemblance to basketball.

And - no surprise - among the officials were the horrible Big-12 officials who worship dirty, dangerous, fistfight type of play.

The NCAA said they were putting an end to that trash - but do not have the intelligence or the courage to overrule the TV folks - who like it for the same reason Professional Wrestling lasted so long.

Oh, but they DO want to see the fights! That's why the TV execs want to see it! I agree, it's pathetic!

Washington won big after trailing by 1 at the end of the first quarter.
Plum got 29 points. Didn't hit her treys but normally shoots 43%.
ViVi may be key. Osahor is easy to score over but she may get ViVi in foul trouble. I feel that Washington plays very average defense.

On offense they shoot the trey well and Plum is one of the best penetrators I have seen. Great change of pace and very quick. That could be bad news for OU because typically we don't defend the treys and stay in front of the drivers well and very often have no help defense.

Washington should win but that means nothing.

We start five players who beat Plum and Washington last year. The only difference is that we had Kay Kay for the past two years. She did well. Osahor did well. Plum did well.

But, we tend to shoot well when not defended. We outscored them twice.
