Re: OU-Iowa State Box Score

Less than 60% from the line and outrebounded by 14.......fortunate to win.

Re: OU-Iowa State Box Score

Another game holding the opponent under 40% from the field.

Amen. I loved the switch that Capel had Cade and Blair doing on Garrett screens. We did a better than average job with our perimeter D as well.

Re: OU-Iowa State Box Score

ISU - 6 threes
OU - 11 threes

15 point differential...Pledge made more than ISU by himself.

Re: OU-Iowa State Box Score

The team has really stepped up the D; we have to have it to win.

Now we just need better gang rebounding the rest of the season to make up for our lack of height. 6 offensive rebounds to their 14 is tough to overcome.

The worst thing about getting out rebounded tonight was that a 6'6 guy killing us.

Blocking out would help our rebounding a lot. Whenever a shot goes up, our guys watch the ball instead of blocking out. IMHO Capel needs to have them running blockout drills until they can barely stand. It's pretty simple, Find and block out your man then find the ball.

That said, Capel has done a tremendous job getting these guys to step up on the defensive end. I'm sure they will continue to get better and this issue will also get better.

Re: OU-Iowa State Box Score

It's clear that our success depends on defense and rebounding. The defense is doing much better but the rebounding isnt.

Would like to see Cam with a few more boards, but it sounds like he got some tough ones in the second half and overtime.

Yes, we must rebound better. I was very impressed at how we ran their 3 pt shooters off their sweet spots. We made them shoot alot of 3's on the move, or with a hand in their face. Excellent defensive strategy.:clap:clap

I did not see the game but OU had fewer TO, more assists, and more steals. They also held ISU to a low shooting percentage, including a really good job on three point shooting percentage. I hope that means OU defend the perimeter well and not simply ISU missing shots.

This team is going to get out rebound a lot but if they do other things like reduce turnovers, block shots get steals and defend the three point line they Can over come the rebounding.

Re: OU-Iowa State Box Score

This team has to play smart....fewer turnovers helps. They need to listen to their coach. They did a great job in the first half of defending the three.....but it seemed they got tired in the second half. Conditioning plays a big part in a team's success and with our shallow bench, I'm afraid our guys are going to be running on vapors before the year's out.

Blair seems to be doing better but he needs to watch his fouls. Newell is a talent but he still needs to learn the game. Fitz seems to be in foul trouble each game and I hope that CJ starts picking it up. And I think Neal has a lot of upside....he knows the game and plays decent D. Clark is a freak and will only get better. I hope Cade comes back to his game....yesterday he was in a funk....ft's at the end....everything was short.

This team has a chance...they need to take advantage of it.
