I'm sure glad Peyton was not happy at A&M and further that she was close friends with Kornet. Without her, we would not be nearly as good.

She should have talked to me. I could have told her she wouldn't like it there! ;)

In theory, OSU could tie us for second. Three game lead--three games left.

I'm glad Peyton had thirty. She was the only one who could hit. She was nine of thirteen. Everyone else was fourteen of thirty-nine. The rest of the team was twelve of twenty-three from the line.

Basically, this team has done everything that's reasonable for them to do at their point in their progression. Even if they finish 3rd, if seedings hold in the conference quarterfinals, OU would play OSU on a neutral court in Dallas.

Same as if they finish second. But OSU has two non-gimme games on the road before we meet to end the season, while OU has two tough games but one very winnable one. OSU could steal the two-seed, but realistically the worst that happens in that case is that OU's NCAA seed takes a serious hit.

That's something that I hope the team ponders, though.

I hate to say this, and Syb is probably going to go nuts, but it sure seems to me that Maddie is playing herself right onto the bench.

1 minute of play and two turnovers. Perhaps she should shoot more and pass less.

Perhaps she is still recovering and still rusty, but the rusty excuse is starting to fade.

I know Sherri loves her to death, but it sure seems like mom’s tired of it and Maddie is grounded.

I hate it, but think that is the right response.

Sad that two players who were going to be the catalyst to grab that brass ring for their entire careers have been reduced to riding the pine by play and/or injury.

Maddie still has time to turn it around, but it is clear now that Kornet is done.

I like both of them a lot and it makes me pretty sad.

As I said earlier I was really looking forward to seeing her in person. There were times earlier this year that she made you hungry for how she'd be playing come March. I don't know where that player is. Her first pass was terrible and the second could have been miscommunication but it eas pretty stinky too. Sherri gave her no rope what so ever. She was grabbing someone before that ball landed out of bounds. I watched Maddie on the bench and she was having fun and cheering with the rest of them. After the game she eas talking to fans and looked fine. Hopefully something will click for her.

Positives:

1. we won!
2. we won the rebounding battle
3. Peyton was phenomenal
4. double double for Kaylon
5. good shooting from field
6. outstanding shooting from BTA
7. we had 17 second chance points

Negatives:

1. too many fouls
2. too many turnovers (24)
3. poor shooting at the line
4. Sharane and Gioya only had 12 points between them
5. we gave up 12 steals
6. we gave up 32 points in the paint
7. we gave up 20 points off turnovers
8. we had a 17 point lead but allowed KSU to get back into the game before we closed it out

I was worried about this game and thought we might lose it. Tough in the first half, poor foul shooting, but the ladies came about and punched through some bad/mediocre play.

I don't quite understand what is happening with Sharane and Goyia. Lack of concentration, perhaps? Playing to quickly? Lack of focus? Not sure but we sure could use a consistent 10-15 a game from both of them right now.

Peyton is just becoming phenomenal. Long range now, mid-range, bunnies, steals, tough defense, very few fouls or turnovers.

LOOK AT PEYTON GIRLS!!!! FOLLOW HER LEAD!!! EMULATE HER PLAY.

If she can get better, so can you. Focus, anticipate.

I predicted 2-2. If we can pick it up just a bit more, then 3-1 will be a very nice end of regular season performance.

Does anyone know if a network (besides SoonerSports.net) is carrying the game against Baylor Wednesday? My cable company doesn't carry Fox Sports Net (FSN, FSOK) channels, and because SoonerSports seems to be in bed with FSN/FSOK, I am outta luck!

:facepalm

I hardly think Maddie earned permanent status in Sherri's doghouse. Since she has been averaging fifteen minutes in conference play, sixth most on the team, and she was mentioned as having communication and basketball skills with Peyton, I think this was more specific than that. We had already seen LaNesia come off the bench with two quick turnovers, only to be pulled. But, she re-entered later. We had seen quick turnovers by Gioya, Sharane, and Kay Kay. We had twenty-four. I hardly think that two were that big of a deal---except that it may have been very specific, like being told, "get in their and settle this down." She didn't. We really haven't seen anything other than turnovers from LaNesia recently. Sherri's reaction to Maddie's turnovers was very specific.

Has anyone heard or figured out what Mitte's technical foul was all about?

It seemed very strange considering the events on the court at the time.

Maybe the edge of his shoe was on the court. No, being on the court can't possibly be a technical since WWW camps out near the free throw line most of the game...

when the ball is in play....

on her end of the court.

None of us could figure it out and it happened at the other end. When I got home and watched the game he was a good three feet on the court while the play was right there. We couldn't figure anything out because as you said the call and play went in favor of his team. The KSU broadcasters were of no help.

Syb, please don't try to put words in my mouth.

I specifically she said she seems to be playing herself onto the bench.

I never said Maddie's lack of playing time was permanent. In fact, I pointed it out that she has plenty of playing time ahead of her to get into a real grove -- and by that I mean for the rest of her career.

If she keeps doing two turnovers in a minute she isn't going to be playing much. I DON'T disagree with your interpretation of why Maddie was benched. It was specific --- 2 bad turnovers in a SINGLE minute of play.

Kay-Kay, Sharane, Goiya - and it seems -- LaNeshia do have a tendency to be foul prone and turnover prone. But three of those are bringing something else to the floor -- offense. LaNeshia isn't. Maddie isn't. I think Sherri, right now, likes LaNeshia more at the point than a turnover prone Maddie because LaNeshia is quicker on offense and defense.

I think Maddie just needs to quit trying so hard to be Stacy Dales. She needs to take more shots, both three and mid-range. She needs to drive and end it with a lay-up or foul line-in jumper.

Right now, teams know she isn't going to shoot. So they collapse, making her attempts to thread a very small eye of the needle end up in turnovers.

I did say Kornet is finished. By that, I mean she will not see significant minutes for the rest of her career UNLESS some kind of light goes off. She is clearly afraid to shoot any longer and she's afraid to try to make a quick pass because she's afraid of being pulled because of turnovers.

She's lost all of her confidence and, I'm guessing, that shows in practice and in games.

Nicole can overcome it, but, as I write this, I don't think she's going to do so.

The highlights on SoonerSports.tv show the play. You can see Mitte turn to the ref and say something right before the T was called.

After looking ay who the officials were, I would guess Michael Price was the one who called the T. I hate to see him at an OU game. He calls a lot of WNBA games also. He is T happy.

You had to figure he said something not so sweet. Thing is, as we said, things were going his way.

If Maddie is going to make a difference in OU basketball, it looks like it will be next year at the earliest. Sherri is patient with players who work hard and improve. Right now, Maddie is not improving. Mistakes continue to limit her minutes.

Well, there is the slightest of possibilities that Peyton may finally be named Player of the week. She has 29 tonight.

Uh -OH I may have been premature on this hope.

Nina Davis scored 15 points yesterday. Wendell and his buds may be hard pressed to deny her another POW award based on their past decisions, believing her 15 is far more impressive than Peyton's 30 points on 8 of 10 shooting BTA.

I am obviously teasing a bit, but their obvious bias is inexcusable. The only game article on the women's page for the past couple of weeks was a Baylor win. They finally replaced it today with another Baylor win. That is part of the reason it has been hard for other Big-12 teams to get any recognition nationwide. Those outside the area rely on the view point of the league's official website to evaluate what is happening - and worthy - in the conference.

I am starting to think Wendell lives in the Baylor locker room.

Make sense:

https://admin.xosn.com/pdf9/3213370.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=31000&

The five starters are playing at least 24 minutes per game (conference play).
Maddie is next with 15.
Vivi is next with 10.5. Nobody else has ten.

Maddie leads the team in blocks---as a reserve. She is scoring almost as much as Sharane who has 177 more minutes. She is third on the team in FG%, behind posts, Kaylon and Vivi. She is second on the team in 3pt %. She and Gioya are tied for third in free throw % (excluding Shaya's one for one). In non-conference play, Maddie averaged nine minutes per game. In conference play, that is fifteen.

Recent minutes:
21--at Texas
17--at WV
22--IS
3---KS
7---at Baylor
21--TCU
23--at IS
1---at KS
Does that look like her minutes are declining? It does look like she doesn't get to play against Kansas State.

Not coincidentally, two of the three games in which she totalled single-digit minutes were against KState. The other was against Baylor.

I wasn't able to watch yesterday's game, but from what I read, Maddie REALLY stunk it up in her brief time on the floor. Two turnovers in back to back possessions, and the quick hook by Sherri.
To which I say, WTG, Sherri! Players need to get pine time for not valuing the ball, IMO.

...Not to say that I don't want Maddie to continue to get her chance to play her way out of this funk.
